I have been told there were two Peter Smiths in Rowan at the time. I am descended from Peter Schmidt Sr. & Jr., the German family which came down from PA after being converted to the Dunkerd church.
PETER SCHMIDT/SMITH (d.1767Rowan Co NC) came to the U.S. between 1731 and 1750 to Pennsylvania from the German Palatinate. He and his brothers/brother-in-law (Gaspar/Caspar & David) are believed to have resided in East Cocalico Twp, Lancaster PA from around 1736 to 1748. The children of Peter Schmidt/Smith were baptized in Muddy Creek Church in Lancaster PA. Peter was married to a Barbara (surname unknown), and she may have died before Peter Sr. His children were:
George (b.1727Germany-d.1814)m. Mary Bruner
Peter Jr. (b.1739PA-d.1779NC) m. Marg.Ford
Sussanna (b.1739PA-d.aft.1779NC)m. R.Walton
Elizabeth (b.1741PA)
Nicolas (b.1742PA)
John (b.1748PA-living in 1779)
Mary (b.1736PA-living in 1767)
Magdalena (b.?-living in 1767)
Margaret (living in 1767)
Eve - m. John Adams then Geo.Christopher Crotzer.
Peter Jr. (twin to Susanna)is the father of John Smith (1780-1812)m. Polly Bryan in 1804. Their daughter was Margaret Smith (1806-1895) m. Isaac Earnhart (1807-1846), whose child was Caroline Earnhart, my gggrandmother. This is happening in Rowan Co., NC.
I can't answer your question on Hobbs and Peter B. F.
