I HAVE A KATHERINE MITCHELL WHO MARRIED MANELY HATTON WITH NO DATES. I DO HAVE ONE OF THEIR SONS AS CHARLES E HATTON WHO WAS BORN ON NOVEMBER 14, 1853 AND MARRIED CAROLINA HICKS. THEY HAD 10 CHILDREN: JULIA, JOHN, JAMES, IDA, WILLIAM, KATIE, MANELY, LEE, WEBB AND SUE. I ALSO FOUND THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION FROM A BOOK ENTITLED A HISTORY OF WHATCOM COUNTY BY LOTTIE ROUTH COPYRIGHT 1926:

A native of the south, Charles E. Hatton has profited by the countless opp ortunities of the Pacific northwest and is now rounding out a long and use ful career in the enjoyment of those comforts which are the legitimate rew ard of earnest labor and right living, making his home in Deming townshi p. A son of Manley and Katherine (Mitchell) Hatton, he was born November 1 4, 1853, and is a native of North Carolina. His father was an agriculturi st and also followed the carpenter's trade. He sacrificed his life in defe nce of the Confederate cause, and when very young Charles E. Hatton assum ed his share of the burden of providing for the family. He was faithful a nd dependable in the performance of his duties and his employers soon reco gnized the fact. He was made foreman of the Cramberry Iron Works and fill ed the position for a considerable period. He followed the occupation of f arming in Kentucky for sixteen years and then went to Minnesota, spendi ng two years in that state. On the expiration of that period he came to Wa shington, preempting a claim in Whatcom county, and subsequently took ov er the property of three other homesteaders. He gradually increased his ho ldings until he became the owner of six hundred and twenty acres of la nd in the county, but he has sold a portion of the tract to good advanta ge and his present ranch contains three hundred and twenty acres, eigh ty of which are under cultivation. The rich soil yields abundant harves ts and his place is improved with a fine home and good barns, clearly indi cating the thrift and prosperity of its owner.

In 1871 Mr. Hatton married Miss Caroline Hicks, of North Carolina, and t en children were born to them, namely: Julia, who lives in Seattle, Washin gton; John, whose home is in British Columbia, Canada; James, a reside nt of Whatcom county; Ida, who married Fred Bailey, a farmer of Mountain V iew township; William, of Seattle; Katie, the wife of Ted Gillan [Gillilan d?], who lives on the Hatton homestead; Manley, who is employed by o ne of the large lumber firms operating in Whatcom county; Lee, who liv es in Deming; Susie, the wife of Sigurd Johnson, a Californian; and Web b, a resident of Bellingham.

Mr. Hatton is not bound by party ties but casts his ballot for those men a nd measures that he deems will best conserve the public weal. He served f or many years on the school board and in all matters of citizenship is loy al and public-spirited. When he came to the township there were no roads a nd the land was covered with dense forests of pine. With cables he bui lt a foot bridge across the river, and he is thoroughly appreciative of t he improvements and advantages of modern times. He has learned many valuab le lessons in the school of experience and enjoys the esteem of many frien ds, whom he has gained by a life of industry and rightly directed endeavo r.
