I do NOT pretend to have much information on the McRAE family. However, I have been chipping away at the family of James ROPER (b abt 1761-2, d 1833 - Richmond County, NC). James ROPER married Sarah McRAE, probably before 1790. This Sarah ROPER is known to have later remarried a much younger man Brittain HART in Nov. 1847.

"Died in Richmond County on the 23rd at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Sarah Roper, Mrs. Sarah McRae, age 106 years."

This is NOT my branch of the ROPER family and my posts had been intended to stimulate some interest and research into this branch of the ROPER family. A study of the McRAE family members shown to be adjacent to ROPERs in Black Jack, Richmond County, in the U.S. Census for years from 1800 through 1830, as well as what seems to be an anomolous Rutherford County listing in the 1840 Census, might prove fruitful.
I also have NOT exhausted the possible primary records associated with a North Carolina Supreme Court case, Hart v. Roper, 41 N.C. 349, 1849 N.C. LEXIS 231, 6 Ired. Eq. 349 (N.C. 1849), cited in this indicated thread.
