Most of the North Carolina Wills have been digitized and images placed online at FamilySearch.org, a free site. If you can't find a copy of a will on any of the NCGenWeb County Websites (http://www.ncgenweb.us/county-list/ ), you can always view, download, or copy an image from FamilySearch, which aren't indexed, but one can browse by County, then by Will Book and dated to get to the page of the will you're interested in.

Here is the link to the North Carolina Collection of Probate Records:

https://www.familysearch.org/search/image/index#uri=https%3A...

Deloris Williams

Moved to New Hope Creek area in 1744.
One of the original eight Justices of Orange County when it was fromed in 1752."

Do you have a copy or transcription of his will? I sure would appreciate knowing what it says!!!
William Parten b. 1792 NC_DNA proofs_seeking more

My name is Donna Parten. Greetings to my cousins of all spellings.

I received proof of descendence from William Cocke Partin (1700-1784) through autosomal DNA testing with FTDNA Family Finder. WCP married Joannah Stith and I have DNA matches w/ descendents of other Stiths of that era, so we can rest assured: the Partins in the early 1700s were part of the Stith-Bolling and Allen-Hunt clans of mid-1600s Chas City County VA. I'm still working on DNA connections with the Cocke, Meriwether, and Culpepper families w/ whom I have DNA matches but we descendents haven't yet found the marriages that connect them w/ Partins. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Names of William Cocke Partin's siblings and their spouses' surnames are essential to this task; dates/places of birth add value.

I also match the DNA of a Partin line who was in Burke Co NC, passed thru GA, and went on to TN. I do believe we are all descendents of the same progenitor, Robert.

But that's frosting on the cake. My true dilemma is the missing Partin men (how many? 2? 3?) between William Cocke Partin and my g'g'greatgrandfather, William Partin b. 1792, NC. Conversations with Doris Parton point to my Wm being in the same line as her Moses Partin, using NC neighbor surnames Barnes and Bynum. But some neighbor surname evidence points to Burke Co NC.

I have more pointers but won't go into them here. Instead, would anyone like to work w/ me on this in a concentrated way, who can spare some time (for a few days or weeks)? Doris was very helpful; and it IS timeconsuming. The most helpful of all would be an autosomal DNA test thru FTDNA or 23andMe. It can be taken by men or women, just so you're a direct Partin (all sp) descendent.

With appreciation,
Donna Parten
See my Ancestry tree, "Grant Allen Parten Family Tree"--if you dont have an account and want to see it, email me at partendonna(at)gmail(dot)com and put "May I see your Parten tree?" in the Subj line.

As far as Green O'Daniel goes, he was my great-great-great-grandfather through his son Edward M whose son Hubert Patrick was my grandmother's father. I know a bit about Hubert, but he died when my grandmother was 3 so she doesn't know much, but I'm also extremely interested to find out more about Green. All I've found is what's on this website, but I'll post something if my grandmother is able to find anything elsewhere.

Bernice Virginia Harvey Cain, 82, died in her sleep Sunday Morning, July 28, 2002, in Orlando, Florida, where she lived. She was born on Straight Mountain near Oneonta, the second child and only daughter of Elder and Minnie Elizabeth Tidwell Harvey. As an aerial photographer in the Air Force, he served over Burma. After later working in construction in Miami, he retired, and the couple spent some years in Blount County, where he researched and wrote books on the Harvey and Tidwell families. Bernice Cain was buried by her husband at CHAPEL HILL, NORTH CAROLINA. She is survived by four children; nine grandchildren and five great- grandchildren; and sisters-in-law Geniece, Juanita, Marguerite, and Myrtle Harvey.
Re: HARPER, Susan, b. 16 Mar 1769, Orange, Co., North Carolina

William Harper Sr. lived circa 1778 - 1789 on the east side of the Haw River along Basin Creek (formerly known as the Plum Branch of the Haw River) near the present-day town of Altamahaw, Alamance, North Carolina. This area was formerly part of the Chatham District of Orange County. Living adjacent to him were his sons, John Harper (m. Margaret Morrow) and William Harper [Jr.] (m. Elizabeth Gwin). He also had daughters Sarah Harper (m. John Gwin) and Susannah Harper (m. Thomas Garner) living nearby. All four Harper children subsequently relocated to the Pendleton District of South Carolina in the 1790s.

The name William Harper is not listed in Orange County on the 1790 census (compiled from tax records). The Chatham District of Orange County became part of Alamance County in 1849.

Susan Harper (b. 16 March 1769) who married James Barnhill/Barnwell lived very close to Reuben Harper (born circa 1738, and thought to be the son of Henry Harper of Essex County, Virginia, Richmond County, Virginia and Halifax County, North Carolina). Reuben Harper lived on land near Stagg Creek just north of present-day Mebane, Alamance, North Carolina. There are land records mentioning Reuben Harper in Orange County, North Carolina in 1793 and 1797, but his family lived in the area from about 1782 until about 1805.

Presently, there is no known link between the families of William Harper Senior and Reuben Harper, if any indeed existed. The names of the parents and the wife of William Harper Sr. are unknown. His wife was not Margaret Knox.

An Elizabeth Harper m. William Barnhill 23 August 1804 in Orange County, North Carolina.
I have been searching for awhile, but decided to re-enter the discussion, having learned more about James A and John D Guthrie. If Garrit Guthrie moved from VA to NC, he probably moved to Orange County, before Caswell County was formed. Is that a reasonable assumption since James, William and John were in Caswell in 1778?

Re: Yancy LOY b. abt 1817 in Orange Co., NC

Yancy Loy
1815-1878
I cannot prove with documentation That George Loy Sr. (1771-1840) and Nancy Ferguson (1772-1840) were the parents of Yancy Loy (1815-1878), but I offer the following facts, logic and some speculation.
1.	We know by the census records of Rhea Co. TN. that Yancy Loy was born between 1815 and 1818 in North Carolina. This would make him 12-15 years old in the1830 census records.
2.	We know by North Carolina marriage records that Yancy married Sara Essex in Orange Co. NC. on May 2, 1835.
3.	We know by the 1850 census records that Yancy and Sara migrated to Rhea Co. TN. about 1838 by the age and birthplace of their children.
4.	We know by the 1840 census records that Yancy and Sara migrated to Rhea Co. TN. along with Sara’s parents and family.
5.	We know by the 1800 and 1810 census records that George Loy Sr. was married twice. First to Maria (unknown) in about 1791 in Orange Co. NC. The 1800 census records show George Loy and his wife, both 26-44 years old, with four children under 10 years old. The 1810 census records show George Loy over 45 years old with 2 boys and 3 girls under 10 years old, 1 girl 10-15, 1 boy 16-25 and 2 girls 16-25, and no wife. That would tell us that Maria must have died at the birth or soon after the birth of her son George Jr. in 1808.
6.	We know by North Carolina marriage records that George Loy Sr. married Nancy Ferguson on April 22, 1812 in Orange Co. NC. There are no records of George Loy Sr. in 1820 or 1830 in Orange Co. NC. I did find a George Loy in Anderson Co. TN. in 1830, he was listed as 60-69 and she was listed as 40-49 with no children in the house.
7.	We know by census records that some of the Loy family migrated into Union and Anderson Co. TN. and on into Kentucky 1810 - 1830.
8. In the 1830 census records for Orange Co. NC. there are only four Loy families left, John Loy Sr., (George Loy Sr.’s father), John Loy Jr. (son of John Loy Sr.), William Loy, (son of John Loy Sr. brother George Loy 1743-1798), and George Loy Jr. (son of George Loy Sr. and Maria Unknown). John Sr., John Jr. and William Loy are living close to each other near the town of Hillsborough NC. George Loy Jr. is living in the Northern District of Orange Co. that later became Alamance County in 1849. The James Essex family is living nearby. (Father of Sara Essex).
9.	George Loy Jr. (1808 – 1870) Married Nancy Byrns Dec. 28, 1828 in Orange Co. NC. The 1830 census records show 3 children less than 5 years old living in the house; these would be the children of George Jr. and Nancy. Also living in the house are 2 teenage children a boy 15-19 years old and a girl 15 – 19 years old.
10.	This is where the speculation comes in. I believe the Teen boy is George Jr. half brother Yancy Loy and the teen girl is his half sister (name unknown), both being the children of George Sr. and his second wife Nancy Ferguson. I believe that George Sr. and Nancy Ferguson moved west into Tennessee and their young son George Jr. elected to stay in Orange Co. along with his half brother and sister. Given that they lived close to the James Essex family and Yancy Loy and Sara Essex married in 1835, and that there are no other male Loy’s in the area of the same age range it only stands to reason.
11.	Feel free to pick this apart or add to it. I am open to suggestions.
Ken Shipp Sept. 23, 2012
He was born ca. 1855-6.He was more than likely married in 1877 than dieing in that year, as his children were born in 1879, 1881 and 1884. He was the son of Joseph Hogan and Elizabeth Sheffield who were md in Mont. Co. in 1848. Joseph Hogan is the son of Willam Hogan and Priscilla Green.

William 'Grancey Billy' Edwards was my 4x gr-grandfather on my dad's side. I've just now come across a bit about his murder. Can anybody fill in details? Who was Hemp Crouse? Why did he do it? Why did William call himself Grancey Billy? Anything else? This is fascinating.

Patricia
