Thank you, that is very helpful. My grandfather, Archie, changed his name later in life. After his mother died the children were indeed farmed out. He wound up in an orphanage in Richmond and was "raised" by my grandmother's uncle and aunt. They wanted help on their farm. My grandfather worked pouring concrete for a living and met one of his nephews on a job site and was reunited with his family through his older sister, Lottie. I posted under the NC board because I don't know what I'm doing mostly and since they were bured in NC I thought there might be some crossover. I appreciate your help so much!
