SUMMARY: I found an earlier wife Elizabeth for Archibald Reid, previous to the wife Elizabeth born ca Jan 1790 NC
29 Jan 2011 from Warren “Tuck” Forsythe
P.S. to Dickinson/Reid message below of 25-26 2011
now adds an earlier wife from Archibald Reid
-based upon a document from Chatham Co., as well as the Moore Co. NC records.
1805 Chatham Co NC probate of Aug 1804 will of Joseph Lea reportedly reveals
that his daughter Elizabeth Lea
had by Aug 1804 died and left her widower "Arch Reid" with 3 sons (see web
site above for sons' names).
1800 Moore Co US census lists "Archd Reed" with male&female 26-44 years and
three boys 0-9 years old.
Evidently Archibald Reid's 2nd wife was also named Elizabeth, born NC ca Dec
1789 d. aft 1850 then US census Madison Co TN aged 60 born NC;
they had married at least by 2nd half of 1807, inferring from first known
child, of that 2nd marriage: i.e. Margaret Reid born March 1808 NC.
MORE DETAILS BUT JUST COPIED VERBATIM from letter to someone else:
Description: This family is found under spelling Archd Reed on 1800 US census of Moore County NC male&famale aged 26-44 with 3 boys aged 0-9. Although Moore Co. NC records mostly burned 1889, Archibald Reid surviving records place him 1794 and 1817 on Cranes Creek in Moore Co NC, roughly halfway from Carthage NC to Fayetteville NC.
Since 1800 US census shows three boys under age 10, probably the 3 sons you all compile were born before June 1800.
CAVEAT: both of Archibald Reid's known wives were Elizabeth.
I show Archibald born abt 1770 Cumberland Co NC from his family's records in Cumberland Co. and his own Moore Co. NC US censuses 1800 and 1820 both under "Archd Reed." His death abt 1826 Madison Co. TN from his widow's 1830 census:
1830 Madison Co TN Elizabeth Reid 01200000-0221001
the age categories of children match the 1820 Moore Co. NC Archd Reed US census record amazingly closely. A couple of his daughters reportedly married sons of Wm Dickinson/Dickenson so the 1824 reported move of Dickinson family from Moore Co NC to Madison Co TN should be cited from --THE PUBLISHED DICKERSON or Dickinson Family HISTORY ON PAGE (variously numbered) 1503/450 VOL III, Hempstead’s Historical Review of Arkansas.
My above rootsweb internet family tree shows first known child of his 2nd Elizabeth marriagewas born 1808, which roughly fits together with your death date of his first Elizabeth wife bef 25 Aug 1804.
