I'm afraid I have no new information except I am told by the family members descending from these people that we have Indian blood. Something which my family talks about with a huge sence of respect (in the older generation ESP.). If you have any new info or are still around I would love to hear from you.

Mactims Black Hawks father was Pysesa Black Hawk 1740 1787 unknow mother and his father was Na n m k Thunder Black Hawk. Born abt 1711 North Carolina . I got this information from Ancestory .com and Mormon site.
Have not looked at things for sometime. Health not been great last couple of years. but still want to get back at it.
Are you Gatsey is not your Great Great Grandmother. if she is your Great Grandmother would make you alot older than most of us that are desendant of hers still alive. I am 67 . Not old ! but she was not either when she died. was only 58 and had sugar and was blind from it at the end..

Thank you SO much for this information on the Merritt's. I, too, am a Merritt...James Nelson Merrtt is also my Great Great Grandfather. I found info that he was married to Josephine Russell on 18 Dec 1854. Their son, John Thomas, was my Great Grandfather and was married to Henrietta Jane Robinson in 1883. John Thomas was born, raised, and died in Montgomery County. Their son, John Bunyon Merritt was my Grandfather, who died 16 Jan 1945 from pneumonia in a VA Hospital in Fayetteville, NC. His address at the time of his death was Rt. #2, Box 31, Mt. Gilead. He was married to Margie Gibson at the time of his death, but was divorced from my grandmother, Annie Belle Keith Merritt...my dad, Leon Merritt, was their son. I actualy went to Montgomery County this past June to try to locate the Merritt Cemetery, but had no luck as I don't know the exact location of the Merritt homestead. If you could PLEASE help me out with a location, I would be forever grateful. Please check my Ancestry site for detailed info - or at least, what I've managed to collect so far. As far as Henrietta Robinson, I've managed to track the Robinson's back to England - to about the 1400's..stil working on confirming some of that info! Would love to know who were your parents so we can see how we are related, as we apparently are. I noticed your name is Bob...my father's brother was named Robert, and I also have a brother named Bob (Robert) so Bob is a common name in the family. You can contact me at toni272@aol.com. My ancestry site is Merritt Family.

They would think it was a scam or other.

Can chek out that DNA website right now, they are offering a special prices for testing.

Patricia
cw
Unfortunately the person did not site WHAT newspaper.

The article title is "Mother and Two Children Buried WIthin Three Days" The mother was buried on 1 Apr 1928 and the two children (Elizabeth Greene & Arthur Greene) were buried on 3 Apr 1928.

Is anyone familiar with what papers would have covered that area back in 1928 - and where I might find copies?

Hi, Thank you for the info! Looks like another brick wall but at least it has been verified. The Harris family were neighbors to my Jones folks if I recall correctly on the maps that I have but that was way back in the late 1700's. I know that often times neighbors married neighbors close by and have tried to connect to the Harris family but could not get anything verified because of all the court fires. I have a file from the archives on my gg uncle Mark Jones who died in Stanly County in 1858 and it list a slew of heirs of neices and nephews because he died unmarried. He was a merchant in Stanly County and also owned or acquired alot of the family land. In the estate documents, I have been able to i.d. my ggg grandfather Charles jones,b. 1750ish, gg grandfather William Jones b. 1780ish and my great grandfather Baldwin Henderson Jones who came back to the Moore County (now Lee Co.) area around the 1840's and married a Ragland in Chatham County. I have a strong idea that the graves of my family are probably in Badin Lake once it was damned up. They lived near the 'narrows', or so I read that is where 'Baldy' was born. Are you a Jones from that area?
Thanks! Charlotte

Ahhh. Thanks. That's what I was wondering. Some of the Harris' are buried out there, but as far as I know, it's called Jones field because that's the name of the family that lived there 20 - 30 years ago. I don't like giving mis-information, so I'll double check.

At any rate, the cemetery in Jones field is in northern Montgomery County, in the Eldorado community.

Again, I'll double check!

Thank you for replying to my post! I am in search of my Jones family that lived in Montgomery/Stanly County in the 1770-1860 range. Some of them may still live there. My ggg grandfather Charles Jones was Colonel of the Montgomery County Militia when he resigned in 1802 probably because of old age or he moved west. William and wife Mary Jones stayed in Montgomery County and then became part of Stanly when it was formed in 1841. I came across the reference to this 'Jones Field' in some of the genealogy of West Harris family who are buried there. I am hoping that maybe the location?? of where my Jones family lived?? I can tell you more but can you give me any info about this 'Jones field' cemetery? Thank you so much! Charlotte

Because of the number of children in the Harris, Boyd, and Poole families I have researched all the descendants.
Will look forward to hearing from you.

According to "The Heritage of Montgomery Co., NC 1981," Reuben Morris and Pollie Sealy had 8 children. The only one whose birth date is given is James C. Morris, born January 29, 1830, and died January 11, 1910. He married Lousenia Frances Cook on December 24, 1856, and they had 7 children. The family history was written by Reuben and Frances' grandson in 1935

Ok, technically they were half brothers, but John Wesley was
there father. My father and his siblings always claimed Madison as their brother.

From John Wesley and Mary Dan Mason there were 8 siblings 5 boys Burl, Asbury(Az), Charlie,Austin, & Roy Thomas(my father). 3 Girls-Ila, Jessie, and Lennie.

I actually have a photo of Madison and Annie. John Wesley and Mary Dan actually lived with my parents until their deaths. John Wesley around 1947 and Mary Dan 1957.

Your message intrigues me! My Great Grandfather James Madison did not have a brother. He was the only son of John Wesley and Victoria Redwine...according to records I have found. He had step brothers from JW's marriage to Mary Dan Mason, who were Asbury, Burley, and Charles Wesley but I have never found a Roy Thomas Harris! James Madison came to Texas from NC when he was about 17 yrs. old, with his uncle (or so I have been told) whose name was "Clabe". Do not know if this was true.
My Madison married Annie Eurene Milliken in Kaufman Co. Texas, had 5 children (all have passed away)lived his whole life there (died & buried there) and never went back to NC. My mother had a picture of JW with Madison when JW visited Texas one time but as far as I know, Madison never visited North Carolina. Doesn't mean he didn't....but that I just don't know of it.
Please let me hear from you. I am anxious to hear details on your father! Would love some help with these Harris/Pools!!!!! Thank you so much for replying to this old post.

I am a grandson of John Wesley Harris. your harris lineage is the same as mine. My father, Roy Thomas Harris was a brother to a Madison Harris. I certainly would like to converse with you more on this subject. No one is my family knows what happened to Madison and Annie. Everyone says they moved West and never came back. Would you like to discuss. I think I can help you with your Poole lineage also. I live with 10 miles of the original harris homeplaces here in NC.
