John Thompson ROPER was the son of Revolutionary War Veteran John ROPER (b 24 Feb 1763-6 - Brunswick, VA, d 25 Jul 1852 - AL) and Sarah FINCHER and the grandson of Jesse and Obedience ROPER. John Thompson ROPER and two of his brothers were very early Methodist ministers.
