I am trying to establish the name of Sarah Flenniken's parents. She was born about 1740 supposedly in PA and married Thomas Cochran in Mecklenburg Co NC in 1770. Her parents are listed on an ancestral file on the Mormon Board as James and Jean or Jane (Gillespie). They were married in New Castle Delaware on 28 Jan 1731 and he died in Mecklenburg ca 1766. It said Jean/Jane died after 1779. James' father was listed as John, born about 1690 in Bengal, Erin (?) None of this had any references as to where the information came from. Are any of these people in your Mecklenburg Flennikens?

Hopefully you have already found the link and information you need. I can provide you a summary as we are distant cousins, however, the best and most comprehensive source is John Flenniken, author of The Flenniken Family (available for $35). John can be reached at mdfjff@eohio.net

Spartanburg/Laurens Dist, SC 1790 had a Reuben Flannegon. I have an ancestress that married a Reuben Flaniken in Tipton Co, TN after 1850. I think he might have been the youngest of your line? Did Reuben move to TX?
McClanahan is a name from the NC/SC piedmont area pre- 1820.
John McClanahan

Hello,
I think James Madison Flenniken is my great great great grandfather, only we spell it Flaniken. Rueben Flaniken, James and Sallie's youngest son, was my grandmother's father. Rueben was a Presbyterian minister. His wife was Kate McClanahan. They both died young, and my grandmother and her siblings were raised by relatives of Kate's. Like you, I'm looking for more information on James and Sallie, and would be glad to share information on my branch of their descendents.

Hi Rachel Thank you for your response to my query. I have not researched my husband's family, the Flennikens, in a while. They also spell the name Flaniken - my mother-in-law married into the Flanikens. I will need to review my research to date sometime tomorrow to get back with you. Then you should be hearing from me.
