I have many relatives that are buried in Hicks Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery. Does anyone know how we can get it touch with the people who maintain the cemetery?
When we visit the cemetery each year, we are very upset about the condition of many of my relatives' headstone because the grass is overtaking them to the point that soon they won't even be visible. We always try to edge them with scissors, but this only lasts for a while. I am concerned that soon my husband and I will be too old to get down there and edge them. We tried several times to get in touch with whoever is in charge of maintenance. We spoke with the man that cut the grass several years ago and he agreed to cut closer around the headstones, but I imagine that he is not the one doing it anymore and it has not been done.
If anyone that lives in McDowell County knows who we can talk to about this, please let me know. We will be up there in September for a family reunion.
Also, I would like to hear from anyone that knows the history of this area. My mother was born in Marion in 1915. Her aunt Edna McCormick passed away in 1971 and I know she was known by many people but so many of them have also passed away.
Thank you for any help you can give us. Nancy Mays
