George Washington "Rock" Franklin - DNA results

My maternal grandfather's gift to me this Fathers day was to allow me to get his DNA scanned. He is a direct decedent of George Washington "Rock" Franklin. (George "Rock" Franklin -> David -> Peter H ->John -> Calvin -> Grandfather).

Now the DNA results I got back does NOT match any of the established Franklin lines nor does it match any of the Shelton lines either. So the question as to who George Washington Franklin's father is still anyone's guess, but it looks like the father was not a Franklin or Shelton.

If anyone wants the DNA results for this branch I would be happy to share.

Jay Henry Ball was born in Tennessee about 1883. Yes Jay Henry married Henrietta Eloise ( Etta E Jones) The 1930 Census shows they had 3 daughters and 1 son. One of Jay Henry's daughter was my grandmother.
Jay Henry and Etta are buried in Asheville North Carolina along with other family member. They can be found on FIND A GRAVE. website.

I have nothing definitive. My notes only have "NOT PROVEN" I have a contact who can get lots of census records, but unable to go back far enough....found an Amos Norton in TN with a wife Mary in 1860, both age 55, but nothing else. Have been on other parts of the family tree and just skipped this one.

i too have been stuck on amos norton. ive been working on this family for 35 years. the only thing i have found is a amos norton in greene co tenn but i didnt take the info down and when i went back i could not find his name again. have you anything to confirm that amos is the father of david? i saw someplace years ago that davids middle name was amos.if you have anything other than this let me know. thanks maryn mae

Her son, Jackson Conly Rector is my great, grandfather and his son, William is my grandfather. Any info, pictures, or documents you have to forward would be greatly appreciated! Elisha K. Williams you're referring to is my great great grandfather. His son, William Walter Williams is my great grandfather, whose son Marion Logan Williams is my grandfather.

Elisha was the one that gave me the hardest time getting past as well, but finally located him. His father was Walter Watson Williams and his mother was Millie Green. Walter was born c.1801 in what was Rutherford County, N.C. at that time. He died c. 1888 in Henderson County, NC.

Milly Green was born c 1804 (no death date for her), and her parents were Amos Green and Elizabeth Searcy.

If you need more info, please let me know. I'd love to compare notes to see if you have info that I haven't located as well.

Old County Home Cemetery is also known as Riverside Cemetery. I just looked it up on find a grave website. It has a listing of the marked graves. Dan Slagle and several other volunteers cleaned this cemetery up a few years back.

The Old Buncombe County Genealogical Society will meet on Saturday, March 23, 2013 at 2:00 PM at the society library at 128 Bingham Road, Suite 950 in Asheville. The program will be Mountain Homespun: Life and Legacy Of Dr. Frances Goodrich and will be presented by Ms. Julia Roberts Russell, who holds an undergraduate degree from Western Carolina University, and a graduate degree From University of North Carolina-Greensboro and has 41 years of professional experience in the area of library sciences.
Dr. Frances Goodrich came to the western North Carolina mountains in 1897. She was sent by the Presbyterian Mission Board to establish schools in and around Madison County. Ms. Goodrich did a superb job in education but she is mainly remembered for establishing the Allenstand Craft Cooperative, later to be known as the Southern Highland Handicraft Guild. Her influence led directly to the perpetuation of our mountain heritage from “generation to generation” up to today. This program will focus on the “Roberts, Anderson, and Freeman” families of Madison County as they continue the spirit of Dr. Goodrich's work.

Plemmons Family

My great great grandmother was born in Townshp 8, Spring Creek Madison County NC, her name was Rachel Lou Plemmons 1879-1949. There seems to be a lot of Plemmons from that area. I've been told that she was a full blooded Cherokee Indian, but I can't find anything that will tell me for sure if this is true. I'm hoping someone from the same area will know the family. She married George Bright and they moved to Travelers Rest SC.

I have been checking out your data base and one error I noticed was that Thomas Ray Wheeler was not a civil war vet. Matter of fact as per his divorce records, he was captured by scouts and conscripted, but never served one day in either army.

Yes, Mollie Belle is buried there as well.
She married CF Johnson, so her tombstone says Mollie Belle Johnson.
There are many family members buried in the cemetery next to the church in Walnut.

How interesting, we just visited the grave of Fannie's parents, John and Amanda Kenner up in Walnut N.C. I didn't know any of Amanda's sisters names! Is Mollie buried there as well? Yes you had all the names right, I am not sure about birthdays except my Grandmother was Ruth and her bday is March 26, 1911, not 1912. Sorry that is all I know for sure!
