Daniel Battle Scarborough was born in Greene Co, Alabama c1831, and migrated to Arkansas. He enlisted in the CSA on March 05 1862 in Chicot Co Ark, 1st Arkansas Infantry, Co B.
After the war, he migrated to Collin Co, Texas. I found an obit for him there in 1908, stating that he had lost an arm during the war. In his Confederate Pension application in 1900, he states that he "lost his left arm in the war". Another obit from Collin Co (1908) states that he "lost his arm at Missionary Ridge"; however, he wrote a letter himself to the Confederate Veteran Magazine (Vol 8, Jan-Dec 1900, p 170) seeking witnesses for his pension, and stated that he "was a one-armed ex-Confederate, having been wounded (at) the Battle of Mars Hill in April, 1864". I didn't find any reference to a Mars Hill around Missionary Ridge, but I did come across some minor activity at Mars Hill, Madison Co, NC, late in the war, as you stated...I don't know if he was referring to this action, however...Those are the only references I have found thus far concerning his injury; no other details. Do you know if the school buildings were burned around April 1864?
Thanks for your interest!
