William Guy, father of Edmund, father of Willis Guy (of Macon Co, NC), entered the Continental Army in the Mecklenburg, Co, Virginia Militia in the Spring of 1779 under Capt. Reuben Vaughn. He was with General Lincoln's forces at the Battle of Stone Ferry in SC June 19/20, 1779, and finished his 6 mo tour in Charelston, SC. He then reentered service under Capt. Steven Mabry for tours in 1780 and 1781, when he was at Cornwallis' surrender. William Guy is recorded as being a "free man of color". Source: US Nat'l Archives Rev. War Pension Records.
