I am searching for information on my Grandfather, Charles William NEAL and his family. He was born in Aquone, Macon County, North Carolina on March 16, 1898. His parents were John NEAL and Annie MUMSFORD. My Grandfather moved to Honolulu, Hawaii and married my Grandmother, Viva Tom Chong September 9, 1926. My mother has told me my Grandfather has a sister and brother that live on the mainland, but she did not know where. My Grandfather passed away January 5, 1945 and at the time of his death, his father John was still alive. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who may have information on my ancestors. Jane Fouts, daughter of Jacob and Mary Margaret Baker Fouts was born in Ashe County, N.C. in 1814. She died 20 January 1886 at the age of 73. September 21 1836 she married William L. Rowland also of Ashe County, N.C.

William L. Rowland was born 4 October 1813 and died 21 March 1907 at the age of 94. William was the son of Joseph and Elizabeth Fouts Rowland. Joseph Rowland died April 1860, 65 years old in Macon County, N.C. He was born in Maryland in 1775. Both are buried at Aquone Cemetery.

William and Jane Fouts Rowland had 10 children.
Amanda Rowland born 9 September 1837 and died 18 September 1915. She married Andrew Jackson Evans s/o Zachriah and Mary Waters Evans 29 November 1853 in Macon County, N.C. ch. Mary, Albert, William, Joseph Sherman, Noah, Buena.
Elizabeth Rowland was born 17 March 1840 and died 8 November 1920. She was married to John H. Drake s/o Thomas Rachel Page Drake of Person County, N.C. 20 May 1856 in Macon County, N.C. Children: William T. Drake married Adelia Baldwin d/o Alexander and Martha pendergrass Baldwin 24 December 1882. Ellen Drake was born 7 March 1859 and died 20 August 1929. She was married to Samuel M. Dills s/o Henry and Susan Dills 17 November 1878. Josephine Drake was married to Berry Raper s/o Alexander and Adeline Raper of Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Catherine Rowland was born in 1844. She married Robert Lambert 3 July 1873. 2 known children: Richard A., Selah J.
Emily Rowland was born 17 March 1843 and died 28 May 1906. Single. Buried Aquone.
Jacob Andrew Rowland was born 11 November 1846 and died 21 August 1934. He married Catherine Younce d/o George and Elizabeth Barnes Younce on 28 March 1872. Nine children: Luther L., Hattie, J. Buel, Berry M., Robert H., Matthew B., Jane Elizabeth, William Harvey and Lora Rowland. More info on these children.
Rebecca Rowland was born in 1849. No other records after the 1870 census.
Elihu Rowland was born 5 February 1852. and died 22 March 1936. He is buried Aquone Cwmetery. Single. Death certificate shows birth year as 1864.
Mary "Polly"Rowland was born February 1854 and died 28 March 1926. She was married to William James Neal, Jr. 19 September 1874 at her fathers residence with the Rev. Zebedee Barnes officiating. Witnesses were A. Solesbee, J.J. Waters, and A.J. Evans.Their children were: John William, Dora, Cora, Flora. John William Neal was twice married, first to Annie Lunsford 31 May 1903. Annie died 6 January 1919. Second he married Alice Haney. Cora Neal was married to Isaac McLean Winfrey, s/o Isaac and Sallie Winfrey 23 December 1906.
Haseltine Rowland was born in 1858. The 1900 census lists her as being born December 1861, but she was listed in the 1860 census as 2 year old. Single.

Would like to know if you found out anything on Jacob Fouts. You have his daughter Jane marrying a William Rowland. William's mother was also a Fouts, and I am wondering if William and Jane were cousins. Do you show a sister of Jacob by the name of Elizabeth marrying a Joseph Rowland

Thelma Swanson, now deceased, has a book for Jacob and Mary Margaret Baker Fouts descendants. Jacob was son of John Leonard Fouts and Catherine Shearer born Rowan County, N.C. 1786 and died Macon County, N.C. 14 July 1852 at age 66 years.
Mary Margaret Baker was born Rowan County, N.C. in 1790 and died 3 June 1858. The daughter of Reverend Andrew Baker. (Baptist)
Jacob and Mary had 11 children; 7 daughters and four sons.
Mary "Polly" Fouts married George Rowland. They left N.C. and went to Bradley County, Tenn.
Son John married Mary Younce and had son Joseph age 6 in 1870 Bradley County, Tenn. census.
William L. Rowland married Jane Fouts, he being the son of Jane Fouts and Joseph Rowland born Maryland 1775 and died April 1860. age 85 years in Macon County, N.C. Jane Fouts was d/o Jacob and Mary Margaret Baker Fouts.
William and Jane had a son Joseph D. Rowland.
