I am researching the Browning family above, beginning with a Mary Jane Browning who had several children which she gave them her surname since family history says she never married the father. Census records say she was born in SC. Her father Jimmie Browning who was born in SC and died 1916 in Millshoal. Her mother is Sallie Hokins. Mary Jane Browning is found living with one of her sons, William "Will" Browning in the 1920 Macon County Census, is 73 and is listed as single (not widowed). She died in 1926. She had another son named Charlie R. Browning that moved into Swain County by 1920. I am hoping to find another researcher of this family in order to share information. I have just begun to research this family for my three step children. I would love to hear from someone.
