I am trying to find information on the Moody, Slatton, or Conner Families from Jackson County. Daniel N. Moody was born about 1838 and married Nancy A. Slatton in 1862. Nancy Slatton was born 2-14-1844. Their son, Daniel Galveston Moody (born 3-1-1877) married Bessie Conner on 1-16-1898. I have been told that Bessie's father was possibly named Frank and her mother was R.C. Conner. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I recently went to our ancestor's grave in Jackson County,NC. The tombstone reads " Nancy A. Slaton, wife of Daniel V. Moody, February 14, 1843- October 25, 1939."

Beside her stone was Nancy Sauls (maiden name) Slaton 1811-1888. Her husband was John Slaton. He was the son of William Slatton and Sarah Honey. I was told John was buried here as well, but I could not find a marker, still looking though.

William Raleigh Moody (note the middle name)Nov. 5 1870 -May 3 1944, my great-grandfather, was Daniel Galveston's brother.

I believe I have info on Daniel's parents, waiting on documentation. His father, possibly Martin Moody and Lucinda Laura Nicholson. I will send you particulars when I verify it.

I also have Nancy's lineage in the form of a book being sent to me. I'll give more info later.

Here's a sideline, I recently heard from someone that Daniel left Nancy and children and raised another family in Georgia and that's where he is buried. I have a lead on that.

NOTE: Our Slaton ancestor is John Sladden. The name has often been changed or misspelled to these common forms:Slatten, Slatton, Slaton, and Slayton.

Tony,

I can't tell you how much I appreciate the information. I have been at a dead end for the longest time. By the way, what was the name of the cemetery? I would love to go visit there myself. If you want, you can e-mail me directly.
Thanks again!!!

Nancy Slatton's parents were John Slatton, a farmer, who was born 1802

in 1888 in Tuckaseegee, Jackson, NC and is burried in Baptist Church

Martha, born in 1835. James died 24 Aug. 1864 in Petersburg, VA. (It
sounds like he may have been killed in the Civil War)

4) Warren D. Slatton, CSA, b. 1835 in Pickens, SC. Died 29 June 1862

Tony: I am Naomi Hooper Green of Anchorage, AK, a native of Jackson Co., NC. Read your response on Nancy Slatten. Can you tell me if she is any relation of Dyre T. (Richard) Slatten b. May 1846 in SC, married Sarah J. Hooper. I have him the son of Jackson "Jackie" Slatten and Nancy Sauls, both born in SC. I have Nancy in my computer with, I believe, a different birth date. Not sure.
Could Jackson Slatten have been John Slatten. Jack was sometimes a nickname for John.

Nancy Ann Slatton Moody's death certificate list Jackie Slatton as Father and Nancy Sauls as Mother. A Book The Descendants of William and Abraham Slatton of Virginia does list John Slatton as Nancy's father.

Dear Betty Andrews, Jeffery Rice of Illinois is related to the Slattons of Jackson County, NC and he did a very comprehensive family tree that traces the first Slatton (maybe the first?!) in our family line to live in America - JOHN Slatton b. 1670 who is the great-great-great grandfather of Nancy Ann Slatton. NANCY ANN Slatton is the sister of DICK Slatton - he is my great-great grandfather. Are you related to the Slattons ?
Would you like a copy of Jeffery Rice' family tree research?
Kathy Hass
P.S. Jeffery Rice is my mother's cousin's son - that makes him my second-cousin-once-removed!!!

Hi Kathy Hass,
I would be pleased to get anything about the Slatton family of Jackson Co. I would be most interested in adding your Dick Slatton's family data. The research I did was for Daniel V. Moody and Nancy Ann Slatton's descendant. I have exchanged data with Dixie Gallaher and know about the Slaton Book.
Thanks Betty
