I do not have any information on a Popperwill being "ship wrecked" but there were Popperwill's in Tyrrell Co. in the early 1700's.

In the Tyrrell Co., NC will of John Jennett 3 Aug 1738) he mentions "my daughter Dorothy Poptewell".

John Jennett's son, Jabez, in a Tyrrell Co., NC deed of 24 Oct 1739, sold 138 acres on the Alligator River to William Popewell (he is probably his brother-in-law - - husband of Dorothy mentioned in their father's will).
