I am Linda Hamilton Honeycutt, I decend from Robert born 1770 and Joseph is my gg-grandfather. I have a lot of information and wrote some for a couple of Heritage books. I saw you have a picture of Joseph maybe. Would love to contact and exchange information. I still live in the valley where he settled in 1799 near the cemetery where they are buried.
1840 & 1850 census for Samuel Fowler questions

I have the 1840 census for Samuel Fowler. Lists 2 adults between 20 - 49, then 3 females under age 5. Then in 1850 Henderson County, Georgia it lists Samuel Fowler age 30 born in 1820, wife Mariah Fowler age 28. Then 7 children are listed that belong to David and Martha Robinson. I found David and Martha Robinson in 1860 living in White County, Georgia with their children James, Rachael, John and Jesse. Sarah, Mariam, and Elizabeth were the older children and i assume had married by then. My questions is this ..... what is the connection to the families ? And where were David and Martha Robinson in 1850. Their youngest child was apparently a newborn then. Any information to help answer these questions will be great ! deborahgarrett966@msn.com

Sorry, I forgot to mention that the History of "county of" books usually mention people that lived there from the beginning, where they lived, schools, and churches. They usually give information of individual churches, they pastors?, parishoners, etc. from when it was built to when the author finished his book.
I HAVE "borrowed" a book on HISTORY OF HENDERSON CO. N.C.
through MY library from wherever they're available. If the
author is good, you'll be surprized at what storys are
included in the books.
Now let's go AHUNTING

Here's a secret I love to pass on. If YOU'RE a member of your local library, they can borrow books from all over the country. I order "HISTORY OF "(COUNTY") ("STATE") and my library notifies me when they arrive at my local library.
Depending on the age and condition of the book, sometimes
you have to read it there (which makes it more confinient
because the the copy machines are there.
some time you're allowed to take the books have, where you have time and method of taking notes.
You're allowed usually 3 weeks before you have to take
it back.
One little bit of advice: Copy the cover of the book,
and the inside page that has the name of the book, the
author, publisher, and year the book was printed. It comes
in handy later when you need to find more information, or
to verify were you got what you have.
GOOD HUNTING!

I've put my research aside for years now, but I was very please to see that because of the text files that USGenWeb has archived, I was able to pull up some information that I thought was helpful.

Follow this link http://files.usgwarchives.net/nc/henderson/wills/edney10.txt then search the page for "Benjamin King" and you will find a statement linking Elisha and Benjamin.

Another lead you can follow would be records such as "Deed book 5, p. 481, Henderson Co., NC from Elisha and others of land conveyed 'to Benjamin King, the father of the parties of the first part...'." Deed dated Oct. 1845.

Sue, I "stumbled" onto this web-site and glad that I did. I read your message that said you have an article from Henderson County NC Heritage Book I on Samuel King. Elisha King is mentioned as a son of Benjamin and Rebecca. I am attempting to prove by documentation that they are indeed father and son. I need proof that the DAR will accept. Here in TX books on NC are in short supply. If you still have the article and would share with me I would be grateful. I have proved other connections but not between Elisha and Benjamin. Elisha was my gg-grandfather. Thank you.

Benjamin Sr. was the brother of my great grandmother Martha who married Greenberry Sanders and lived in Polk Co NC. I have a picture of Gran Martha and Benjamin together. He was a minister of Refuge Baptist for many years and is buried there.

Thank you, I will keep looking as my goal is to trace my lineage back to somewhere in Great Britain. Several of us Drake's are working together to establish an accurate history. We eventually will have to confirm with DNA. Nice to have help from the old Motherland.

Thanks for the input, quite impressive. My mystery is trying to verify the father of Henry Stepp who is Huldian (Hulda) Ann Stepp's father. I will send you an invite to my family tree. It is complicated as I believe Henry's father is Hezekiah Drake and his mother was Elizabeth Sally Stepp. Hezekiah left his first wife and 12 children and fathered six more children with Sally Stepp.

Seeking additonal information on my Great Grandmother. She married Newton Marion Gentle 1865-1905 around 1887 in Henderson County, North Carolina. They lived in the Clear Creek community. They had three children, Susan Grace, Metta Elizabeth, and Charles Marion Gentle. Both Newton and Huldian died early, both of cancer. She may be identified as "Hulda" in other records and last name as "Steppe".

Eileen,
thanks for the reply. I don't think this is the right Hulda but I will still check it to be sure. I am having some difficulty in tracing the Stepp connection but since I live close to this family history, I will start by contacting a few local Stepp families. You never know when you get lucky.

Hello I miss typed last message. So sorry for the confusion. My Grandmother Daisy Taylor was 13 when my Great Grand Father Benjamin Merritt Taylor died at 93. My Father... Daisy's son Clifford Lee Gibbs Jr. is currently in the hospital. He had a stroke Sun. coming home from church. We would love to read the file and share stories. I'll be getting in touch just as soon as my Father recovers. This has been a very difficult time and we are asking for prayer. My father is a very tough old bird and I would not be surprised if he bounces back quickly.
Sincerely,
Samuel Eric Conner
In 1959-60, Robert McDougal Leonard, of Hendersonville, taught English in my high school, Charles City High School, Charles City, VA. He was a graduate of University of North Carolina (1958?). I believe that he was killed in an automobile accident during the year he was teaching at my school. I have not been able to locate any newspaper articles or obituaries in the Charles City, VA, area. I work at the Center for Local History there and would like to tie down this information. I am wondering if anyone could look up local newspaper information from that time and help me.

Thanks,

Tom

Hello. My name is Samuel Eric Conner. I reside in Flat Rock, N.C. My name before taking my stepfather's name was Samuel Eric Gibbs. Benjamin Merritt Taylor is my Great Grandfather. His daughter.. my grandmother died a few short years ago. Benjamin was 80 years old when she was born. My grandmother was 93 when Benjamin passed. His last sermon was from the home place in an upstairs bedroom window. He died the same day. My grand mother was the youngest daughter of the confederacy. My father could share more stories with you if your interested. Would love to meet you and share what I know. I also have a picture of Benjamin and his last wife and another couple that I believe my Dad said were Justices. Close family friends and still today. Benjamin had five wives i believe.
I am seeking any information (esp. grave locations) for my 3rd Great-grandparents, James F. Johnson and Mary Pully/Polly Stepp. James served in the 56th NC Infantry, Company A & M for the entire War Between the States. They had a daughter, Rachael Rosalee Johnson, whom married John H. Dill, my 2nd great-grandpa whom was also a Confederate Veteran. All of these folks are from Henderson County, NC.

If my info is correct, James and Mary had the three additional children listed below:

James Maurice Johnson, born 1857
Sarah Johnson, born 1869
Louisa Johnson, born 1876

I have been working on this line for over 4 years and not gotten any farther than this. My grandmother told me that her father was an old man when she was born and that she never knew her grandfather, so I have little to go on.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
