My gggrandfather ABNER PACE (1821-1880-90) was apprenticed as an orphan in 1837 (age 16) to saddlemakers Hiatt & Jean, near the Oak Ridge Township in Guilford County. Also apprenticed to various artisans were other members of his Pace family (siblings or cousins). In 1847 YOUNG PACE was apprenticed as an orphan to saddlemaker JONATHAN ARMFIELD at age 13. In 1850 that same YOUNG PACE was apprenticed again (age 16) to cabinet maker ISAAC ARMFIELD. The court agent in the apprenticing of 8 young Paces was the same man (J. A. Mebane) but there were different witnesses. We assume all of this occurred near the Oak Ridge Township. YOUNG PACE eventually ended up in Mecklenburg County, NC, and ABNER PACE in Rowan County.
If you have information on any of these PACES, I would appreciate hearing from you.
