Saturday, June 21, 2008, 10:00 a.m.
The Randolph County Genealogical Society will have an open meeting of members and the public on Saturday, June 21, 2008, from 10:00 A.M. until 12:30 P.M. in the first floor meeting room at the Randolph County Library, 201 Worth St., Asheboro, NC 27203.
Randolph County native Hal Pugh will give a talk about the Quaker Potters in Northern Randolph and Southern Guilford County. He will talk about how the William Dennis site started his interest in the potters of the area. He will also talk about the Hockett, Dix and Watkins families of potters and the African American pooter, George Newby who lived in the Back Creek area of Randolph County. His study of the potters led to a study of the genealogy of the families whose members contained potters.
After a break for refreshments, we will discuss ideas for increasing the activities, number of members and volunteers to do the work of the Genealogical Society.
