Cheryl Hood-Davis, I saw your post for Peter Hood (3 Jan.2000), would like very much to connect with you. I'm also looking for Peter, for we think he was brother to my Great-grandfather Thomas A. Hood. There were three Hoods in Davie in the 1850's, Peter, Thomas and William, and they had to be related.

Please e-mail me at: showard@yadtel.net

Best regards:

Sandra HOward

Thank you. I found a DAR record citing burial in Davie County, NC with no proof provided. I believe that record to be wrong, but I cannot find anything in Carroll County, KY that shows a burial. REV Coker went there from Eaton's Baptist and founded a church. He had married Jincy while at Eaton's and all indications are that his widowed mother-in-law moved to KY with the Coker family.

Looking for any information on E. H. Morris. I am on a committee planning the centennial of the town of Newland in Avery County. When the town was incorporated in 1913 one of the aldermen first appointed was E. H. Morris. I can find no information on him in Avery County except for his name on some deeds from 1912 which list him as being from Davie County. The 1910, 1920, and 1930 census for Davie County list a E. H. Morris that I think was the alderman in Newland. Any help would be appreciated
There is a William Tackett, b 1809, in KY census, also that I do not believe is the same William Tackett. "My" William Tackett was born in NC and migrated from there after 1860, eventually ending up in MO. I believe the William Tackett, b 1809, KY, is son of William "Preacher Billy" Tackett, b NC. I believe that there were two William Tacketts, b 1809, but could be wrong. Will check some more.

CLARIFICATION: Martha Coulter was not EVER a Parker. Martha Ann Parker on the 1850 census as the daughter of John C.Parker and Mary Ann is one and the same as Hester Myrick on the 1860 census listed just below John C. and Polly Ann Parker. She is also the same as the Harriett Myrick listed in the same household as her brother David H. Parker on the 1870 San Saba census. Why she took her cousin's name when she married Myrick only she knows. The true Hester Ann Parker daughter of Thomas G. and Charlotte Perkins Parker married a Campbell.

From Jo White Linn's abstracts of Davie county wills, his will was dated 3 Jan 1845 and probated in February 1845, Davie Co. will book 1:65. It names his wife Mary and Uncle Daniel Warner. His estate was divided on 10 Aug 1847, Davie deed 2:598, for widow Mary Ann Smith with her dower 16.5 acres. The commissioners are named, but not his children.

Following the deed records further down might tell you what happened to the family.
I read in Frank Furches's book on the family that Susannah Horn Furches went to KY after Tobias Furches died with Rev Isaac Coker and her daughter Jincy Furches Coker. That would have placed Susannah as dying in Carroll County, KY between 1836, when they left NC and 1840, when Isaac lists no elderly female on his KY census.
However, I see on line that there is a burial mentioned for Susannah Horn Furches in 1839 in Davie County. If anyone knows of the location of her burial and the information from a stone, please let me know. If I know where the stones are, I would make an attempt to come from GA and photograph them. Prior to this I thought Tobias Furches died in NC and Susannah in KY.

Also supposed to have been poisoned.
Miller, Mary m.n. Wood, born Feb. 20, 1829. Married Aug. 8, 1849, to Jonathan Miller. Died Feb. 11, 1863. She was the last victim of that terrible disease which carried off the above named persons. From the fact that the disease corresponded perfectly with the symptoms laid down in medical works under the head of Belladonna, is is supposed that they were poisoned by a preparation of its roots, etc.

MR 12:6433 Private Diary of R.P. Leinbach, 1863 [Macedonia and Muddy Creek]
Wed. Feb. 4, 1861-In the morning Lucinda, infant daughter of Br. Jonathan Miller, died. At the same time his wife and little boy were very sick of the same disease. The little girl was buried Thursday (5th) morning during a very heavy snowstorm. The little boy died Friday night, and was buried the following Sunday morning. The mother lingered until Wednesday (11th) night, when she departed this life, and was buried the following Friday (13th) morning. The previous Monday (9th) night Sr. M. McBride, wife of Mr. Jno McBride, was taken sick of the same disease and died the following Thursday night (12). Tuesday (10th) night little Amanda, about 12 yrs. Of age, was taken sick and lingered several weeks. At the same time there were four other persons who more or less exhibited the same premonitory symptoms of the disease, myself among the number. In consequence of which I was unable to attend to the funeral of several of these persons. These were supposed to have been poisoned by an old Negro woman belonging to Br. Jonathan Miller.
Mon. Feb. 23, 1863-The symptoms of the disease growing worse, I went to Salem, hoping to obtain relief from change of location, as the disease had been pronounced miasmatic by one of the physicians.
Fri.
I am descendant of Buly and John. They are buried at Smith Grove Cemetery in Davie County. She is daughter of William Atchison who moved from Norfolk, VA to NC and died there by his will of 1827. I am told that William's father wrote his will in longhand in Norfolk where he is buried and may have been an attorney. Beulah married John Williams in 1818 in Rowan County and had no less than 8 children. I have children for 6 of these. My ancestor from Buly and John Williams is Martha Williams Sheek. She married Daniel Sain Sheek and named a child Buly and one John. Daniel and Martha are listed in my DAR line. The person I would like to learn about is the child of Daniel Sain Sheek's first marriage who seems to have disappeared. I find his wife buried with her family in GA. The five surviving sons of Martha Williams and Daniel S. Sheek include my great grandfather and are well documented.

I have gotten back to to Margaret "Polly" or "Peggy" Laird but she is my brick wall. I am looking for information on our Grandmother Agnes who was Grandpa Oscar's mother. She is buried at Smith Grove. If you have any information that Uncle Raymond shared with you about our family I would love to hear it. I wished I had gotten into researching the family while he was still alive because he could have been the key to alot of questions I have. Hope you and the family are doing well. Hope to hear from you soon.

Mr. A.M. Garwood-Civil War Veteran Article from 1912

LITTLE SENTINELS

- During the Civil War Mr. A.M. Garwood, who lives near Fork Church, was shot in the hip in a skirmish near Hampton, Va. This was in 1864 and Mr. Garwood has walked with a cane since that day, and has carried that bullet in his hip. Wednesday Dr. J.K. Pepper removed the bullet after it had been imbedded in Mr. Garwood's flesh for nearly 48 years. ---Mocksville Herald

printed in the Twin City Daily Sentinel
Friday, 17 May 1912
Winston-Salem, Forsyth County, North Carolina

Please Note, I am not related in any way to the above mentioned gentleman. I happened upon this so very interesting article while I was locating an obituary. The heading, "Little Sentinels" appears to be a section of the paper for local blurbs of areas other than Winston-Salem, NC.
Jacob Keller family Cemetery

Does anyone have an idea where the Jacob Keller family cemetery is located.
The Jacob Keller farm was located just West of current day Mocksville. Bear creek bordered the east side of the Keller farm. I have a theory that the family cemetery could be located around current day Mocksville lake or Martins Lake, as those appear to be located at the northen end of where the Keller farm was.

It would be pretty small, around 1/4 an acre. It was supposedly the last piece of land that the Keller's did not sell from the land according the research I have seen. Just looking for any clues.

I am looking for info on Rectors in Davie County. My husbands ggrandfather was William Peter Rector, born in Davie county. As a boy he left and went to Fountain County Indiana, and after marrying he settled in Iowa. I am trying to find out his father and mother. Thru unconfirmed hints I have as his parents George Rector and Mary Polly Riddle, but was hoping for some type on confirmation. Does anyone know, or can you direct me in my search.
jeanie
