Thompson Smith was on the tax rolls of Oxford Township, Sussex County, NJ in 1773. We think Moses Smith(on the same tax rolls) was his brother and came down the 'Great Wagon Road' with him. Thompson and wife, Rachel, had nine children, some who became members of Abbott's Creek.

Thompson also had a sister, Mary who married a John Peden in Montgomery County, Virginia in 1756.

From our DNA profile, we are Scottish or Ulster Scots. We do not know who Thompson father is, but Thompson's youngest son, John, listed his father and 'native born' on the 1870 census. Mary, Thompson's sister, was apparently born in N. Ireland in 1734. I am descended from Thompson's two youngest sons...Thompson, Jr.(father's maternal side) and John (father's paternal side).
