Our grgrgrandfather, James Robertson b. abt. 1795, fought in the War of 1812 and is listed under 1st Regiment, Sixth Company detailed from the Chowan Regiment, yet, when I checked the index of the 1790 and 1800 census there are no Robertsons listed in Chowan County. There are Roberts families with familiar first names such as Charles, Willis, William, Elizabeth, Christian, Thomas etc. which were carried on by James and his descendants. He left NC went to TN, married and moved to Milam County, TX. Does anyone have any information on whether he is from this family and if so why he would have added to his last name?
