I think you are correct to assume that Joseph Huffman on Clarks Creek married Joseph Huffman. However the Joseph Huffman on Clarks Creek was the son Martin Huffman b 1766 MD.
I believe that you will find that Balthazar owned and lived on 200 acres of property near the intersections of Elk Creek and Lyles Creek prior to removing himself and his family to the Davidson, TN area about 1801.
I believe that if you are the descendant of this Joseph Huffman and Barbara Reese you are most likely the descendants of Martin Huffman, who lived no other place than Clarks Creek after 1796 and died there in 1822.
Probably the most confusing thing to me was the use of the name HOFFMAN when by the time the family had reached the shores of America most of them were being recorded and in most instances writing their name HUFFMAN. The second thing that was confusing was the practice of using the same names for everyone over and over, so that the only way to tell some of these families apart was to say where they were from like Clarks Creek or Lyles Creek. The third thing was the Hoffman's of North Carolina that based its family ties based on verbal interviews from older residents. This book listed only three children for Balthazar and I can prove that at least one of them Major George Huffman that seems to be mentioned quite heavily in the book is incorrect. He is in fact the son of Martin Huffman. The book also says that Balthazar was killed in GA in 1798 and in fact he was still living in TN upto about 1830 with his son Solomon. His son George was in TN also, not in NC where Major George was located.
It took me about ten years to figure out just the basics of these facts.
