I am looking for information regarding Catherine Hefner, born in 1833 in Iredell County. The reason that I am asking in this county is because my great grandmother, Turley Yount Massey, was born in Catawba County in 1860 in Catawba County. I have been unable to find any information on Catherine's parents. She died in 1916 and according to the family records, she is buried in St. Timothy's Lutheran Church in Hickory, NC. She was married twice: 1st husband was Miles Logan Yount, who died on July 1, 1863 at the battle of Gettysburg and is buried in Richmond, Virginia. At the time of his death, Miles and Catherine had 4 children: Angeline, who married Frank Shook; Reuben, who married Sarah Catherine Miller; Turley (my great grandmother) who married Logan Govane Massey; and Lydia, who died, I believe at the age of 12.

Catherine married again, I believe about 4 or 5 years after Miles' death. She married John Mathews (Matthews), and they had six children: Alundia, who married Ed Abernathy; Carmyl (not sure of the spelling) married a woman whose last name was Young; Franklin M; Harriet (Hattie) who married Yoden Warren; Marcus Tilford, who married Lovie Holler; and Lillie Bell, who married Luther Bumgarner. John died when the children were young. He died of injuries he received when thrown from a horse, leaving Catherine to raise 10 children alone. I have been told that she lived on Miles' pension for 54 years.

I would appreciate any information that anyone could give me about Catherine. I have heard two different stories about who her parents are, but have been unable to confirm any of it. Thank you for your help.
