I have two James Murphy's in my tree. One James Murphy Sr. born 6-1-1750 in PA died 6-2-1783 in Rowan, NC was the son of Alexander Murphy/Murphey born 1690 in Irland died 1759 in Straban township, York County PA.
James J. Murphy Jr. born 6-1-1780 in Rowan, NC died 6-1-1846 in GA. James JR. was father to Malcolm Malachi Murphy Sr. born 1799 in SC died 8-1-1868 in Abbeville, Henry County AL. Malcolm Sr. had a brother names James J. Murphy as well. All these James had me going crazy for awhile.
