In trying to straighten out bits of information on Leffers in Carteret Co., I have tried to use Simpson and Sanders Revised 1997 edition of "Kith and Kin of Eastern Carteret County" p. 92. The first paragraph describes Samuel 1736-1822, his wife Sarah and their children George 1767-1793 m: Hannah, Asa b:1769, Susan b: 1771 m: 1787 Isaac Hellen and 2nd Capt. Thomas.
The second paragraph says George was evidently lost at sea and his son Samuel (2nd) b: 1792 was raised by his grandfather Samuel. Samuel (2nd) and his wife Sarah Brooks had children: Samuel b ca 1813, George 1815, Mary 1820, Nancy 1823, Lydia 1825, James 1831, Richard (Dr.) 1834. I have omitted the spouses of each of these children who are listed.

The 3rd paragraph then details a John Leffers b ca 1817 and his wife Mary C. Chadwick and their children. The 4th paragraph details Dr. Richard and his wife and children.

My question is was John Leffers b ca 1817 also a child of Samuel (2nd), b. 1792? He was NOT listed in the paragraph listing all the children of Samuel (2nd) and Sarah Brooks.
