Looking for info on Cornelius Sawyer, listed in 1880 Census in South Mills, Camden Co. NC, with his wife Mary Elizabeth and 2 of their sons Coston and William. William was my great grandfather.
If anyone knows of Cornelius's or Elizabeth's parents or siblings, that would be great! -Jen

This may not be your Coston but the age is about right and without a sign on the road you can't tell what county you are in.

are these my relatives William Martin and Costen J Sawyer? they moved to Texas eventually...i have record of William being born in TN... hopefully the same but huge coincidence if not...

Cornelius Sawyer was bc 1852 and married Mary Sawyer bc 1853 on 6 Jan 1876 at the Courthouse township in Camden County. Cornelius' parents were Cornelius & Dilsy Sawyer/ Mary's parents were Lemuel & Peggy Sawyer.
Cornelius Sawyer (the elder) married Dilsey Sawyer 1 Jan 1850, but parents (nor ages) were requested on the marriage bonds at that time.
I didn't see a clear marriage for Lemuel and Peggy ....

So was Dilsey a second marriage for Cornelius the elder? In 1850/1860 censuses they have children born as early as 1829ish.
I'm trying to find parents for Dilsey.

NC marriage records from this time don't indicate the marital status of the parties (single, widowed, divorced).

But here you say that Cornelius md. Dilsey Sawyer 1 Jan 1850. Not sure I get it. Was the 1850 a typo? Can you point me to this marriage record? I can't seem to find them at the frsnnc site you sent. What are they listed under?
