John McClatchey aquired land in what was then Burke Co (now McDowell Co), along the north fork of the Catawba River in North Cove. His grandson John McClatchey II may have resided here during the 1790s while he was working as an overseer of roads in Burke County, 1799.

He married ?, bef. 1790, in either Iredell County, or Burke County. I would like to find the first Mrs. John McClatchey II.
