Y-DNA ( male line)is the best DNA test for research as far as surname goes and county of origin about 1200 + years ago. MT DNA is really ancient but yes it should tell you what country you female ancestor was from many thousands of years ago. This could be 50,000 years go!!! Did they give you a haplogroup? Your Haplogroup would be a letter of the alphabet and the letter they gave you would be your mother line county of origin. This DNA test you took would be for the unknown wife line of your Nathan Low

I have not seen the Low/Lowe surname connected to our Martins. That surname is in Wilkes county. I have also seen Law/Laws in the area.
