The SC Cains I am related to descend from William O'Cain.(born ca 1765 and died in 1826)
His sons dropped the O' from their name when their father died. One son Randal O'Cain did not change his name to Cain.
That may be because he died before his father did, but do not know that for a fact.
Randal was married to Charity ? (she might have been the daughter of Eaton Hyman.)
These O'Cains came from the Halifax Dist. of Martin County,North Carolina, prior to migrating to SC in the 1800s. They settled in what is now Florence County, in the Pamplico area.
I have the book "The Cain Tree and Tangled Branches" by Sadie Leach Hegg. She did a lot of research on the Cains and O'Cains.
I have gotten a lot of my information from Gibbs relatives, and the Three Rivers Historical Society in Hemingway, SC.
I am mostly interested in finding the birthplace of Cannon Gibbs. Many Cains married Gibbs in the Pamplico area.
If I have something you need let me know.
I have found a lot of O'Cains in the Orangeburg area of SC, but I have not done any research on them.
