The pension papers for Preston Robinson indicate that he died at the home of his daughter, Delila Lewis, on 9 May 1872.

In the 1870 census, Preston Robinson (age 74 with his wife Mary) lived next door to Delilah Lewis (age 46). The census indicates that they lived in Laurel in Ashe County, North Carolina.

Thus I assume that he was buried in Laurel.

Arthur Denny
arthurdenny9160@comcast.net

Ashe and Wilkes records should cover the listed ancestors and all who came after. Earlier ancestors may be identified in the other counties. Ashe was never part of Tennessee, however, that state does retain some records of the state of Franklin, which did include much (perhaps all) of what is now Ashe Co. All the Franklin maps I have seen are a little vague. I doubt if a survey was ever made, but hope someone will prove me wrong about that.

Where does one look for records since what is now Ashe County has been-Anson, Rowan,Surry,Wilkes, State of Franklin and State of Tennessee before it became Ashe County. My ancestors lived on the New River near the NC/VA line. Am I in the right area even?

Are the records in Ashe County or do I need to look in all the other places depending on the time frame? Thanks for any help!

My ancestors are Joseph Farmer b 1790 and Sarah Ann Baker who came from NC/VA to Pulaski County KY through the Cumberland Gap in the early 1800's.

Hi Don:

I don't believe that Garrett and Barnabas are the same person. Yes, I believe Barnabas is Felix's dad. Fee lix had a daughter named Rebecca C. Vanzant. She married John Wesley Rose. One of their children Sarah C. Rose married John J. McCoy. One of their sons was William Thomas McCoy. He married Talitha Rebecca Lane. One of their sons was J.T. McCoy. He married Ethel Mae Smith. I am one out of seven children from that union. I found a Barnabas on 1793 census of Straban Township York County Pa. I also found a Peter Vanzant and Brandas Vanzant(possibly Barnabas) on the 1784 and 1785 census of Straban Township of York County PA. I am researching to see if this Barnabas might have fought in PA and was granted land in Surry County NC.
To answer your question of other children of the Vanzants.
The Vanzant, the Rose, and the McCoy families left NC to travel together to Scott County VA and settled in the Powell District. The Vanzant, the Rose, and the McCoy families then moved to Texas. A brother, Alexander Rose stopped and settled in Scott County AR and then later moved further east in AR. This how far I have gotten thus far. You might look for some of the relatives in NC, VA, TN, AR, TX. I say TN because the Lane's also lived in the Powell Distraict of Scott County VA so some of the Lane's on the wagon train to Texas stopped and settled in TN along with some of the Lane's who had never left TN.

Where my Taylors stop is with William Penn Taylor m. Elizabeth Daugerty also of Ashe Co. I have them both in the 1850 census in Scott Co. VA one child Elisha M. B in VA so it looks like they moved soon after marriage fron N.C. To VA. William was 24 when Elisha was born. He would have been 14 in the 1840 census. I believe his fathers name was Jonathan and his mother Rachael. Not real sure about this.
If someone is working on ths family from NC I would be glad to share what I have on the family after they moved to VA. I am Williams GGGrandson.
Im posting this info for someone who does not have an ancestry account. We have located younger William Elliott who was supposedly wanted for murder. He was in Jefferson Ashe county in 1880 living with his Step-Father William Elliott. Below is info given to me about the possible murder. Does anyone know about this possible murder charge or found a court record about it? Thank you

My great grandfather was William Elliott. In his last years he told a family member that his name was Parker from Wilkes county. He said he had killed someone in a drunken fight and ran to Tennessee. My mother can remember in
the thirties that law enforcement came from NC looking for him.His dob was 09/10/1870.His dod was 04/04/1940.
My g grandfather name is Henry Neaves and he married Mary Jane Waddle. They married in 1855 in Ashe NC and lived in Hancock, Tennessee in 1960. They moved back to Ashe NC before 1860. My Henry Neaves was also in the Civil War. IN 1882 Jane died and he married again. I am at the library so I would have to look up her name. In 1905 he married a Ham girl and lived in Damascus, Virginia. Henry died in 1907 and I have a picture of Henrys tombstone in the Old Mock Cemetery. Henrys father was Allen Neaves and Martha Blackburn Neaves. I have researched this family for 12 years and I grew up with the grandchildren of Henry also my g grandfather. If you want more information let me know.

Hi Dawn. Is there any way you can contact me directly by email? (hersheysmeow@yahoo.com) Are you on facebook? I can't access your tree or contact you directly on this (at least not without paying for additional service).

The only thing I have on Harrison is that he died in 1891 at the age of 41. I am trying to regain contact with the relative that gave me that information (and a great deal of the information I have on the Blackburns), but we lost contact. I worked on the family tree quite a bit in 2000, but haven't done anything in a long time. Meeting relatives on facebook (Aunt Ruby's son Chuck, Aunt Hazel's son & dtr-in-law, etc.) and seeing the picture of Uncle Blaine is what triggered me to look into it again. We have all been talking back and forth about the pictures in the last week or so. I do not know who Arthur is. I knew that Bertie's mom died in childbirth in Texas, but I didn't know why they were in Texas. I JUST found out from Chuck that they were in a covered wagon train on the way to California when she gave birth and died. Any chance you could contact me via email or facebook?

P.S. Sorry... wasn't paying enough attention, I guess. Arthur is obviously Bertie's brother, but I don't recognize that name offhand. I do have quite a bit on the Hudlers, also, but haven't looked at in a long time. I think Bertie's mom was named Ellen Acres? I have a picture of her dad, Robert Hudler, on my facebook.

I'm impressed! Jerry worked on the family tree for quite a while and sent me the list of names that he had at the time. I would love to see some of the pictures that he sent you. My son has posted some of the pictures that we have on our family tree here on Ancestry. I don't know whether you can see all of them or whether you have to be invited. Check out Blackburn-Dail tree. I remember meeting your grandmother one time at Uncle Blaine's house. He turned 105 in November and doing very well. How long have you been working on the family tree? I would love to share information to see if we are on the right track. Would you have any idea what happened to Harrison Blackburn? He was grandpa Bob's father and died when Bob was about 10. I don't know anything about him except what Uncle Blaine told me - that he was a good man who had prayer meetings at his house all the time. I have been attempting to confirm the names of his parents but keep running into things that don't match. I found Arthur and Bertie's real mother last fall. I had been checking that one for a long time. I even talked with one of her relatives who still live in Texas.

Can't wait to hear from you! Dawn

Wow! How exciting to hear from you! I LOVED your Grandpa Guy! Your grandparents came to visit us in California a number of times, and we visited out there a number of times. I have a bunch of pictures on facebook of them. My grandmother was Ada (oldest girl of Bob & Bertie's own kids... Minnie was oldest but was only Bertie's). My mom was Mildred. I did know about Wilma. How are you related to Jerry Blackburn? I know he is Guy's grandson, also, and he is the one who sent a number of the older pictures that I have). I don't know if you are on facebook, but Hazel just joined tonight! What is your name? I am Jayne Hodson and on facebook. My direct email is hersheysmeow@yahoo.com. Pauline and Bonnie (Ray's kids) and a number of others are also on facebook. Please contact me directly! :-)

P.S. I show Guy having three granddaughters (this is what I know of)... Dawn, Heidi, and Diane.
