Mr. George Lee Watson, age 80, of Open Door Baptist Church Road in Elkin, passed away May 18, 2009 at his residence.
Mr. Watson was born in Alleghany County on Nov. 19, 1928 to the late Rufus and Jettie Absher Watson.
George was retired from the United States Air Force.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by three brothers, Junior Watson, Robert Watson and Porter Ray Watson; four sisters, Lislee King, Erma Absher, Jessie Teague and Opal Dryden.
He is survived by five children, Toni Sturgill and husband, David, of Thurmond, Kathy Williams and husband, Sam, of Yadkinville, Betty Rycroft and husband, Walter, of Jonesville, Robbin Couch and husband, James, of Elkin, and Chris Watson and wife, Linda, of Hamptonville; seven grandchildren and eight great-greanchildren; a brother, Blane Watson of Sparta; a former wife, Lucy Watson Colvard of Elkin; and a special caregiver and friend, Willie Houser of Elkin.
His funeral service will be held Thursday, May 21, 11 a.m. at Johnson Funeral Home by the Rev. Cliff White.
Burial will follow at Union Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in White Head, with Full Military Rites by VFW Post No. 7034. The family will receive friends today, May 20, from 6 - 8 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gideon Bibles; or to East Elkin Baptist Church, 395 E. Main St., Elkin, NC 28621. Johnson Funeral Home of Elkin is
