MOUNT AIRY — Mrs. Mae Wyatt Owens, 98, of 1524 Forrest Drive, Mount Airy, and formerly of Alleghany County, died Monday, March 16, 2009, at Northern Hospital of Surry County.

She was the daughter of the late Gordon and Lura Stamper Wyatt, the widow of Purvie Owens and was also preceded in death by an infant daughter; sisters, Clarice Wagoner and Edith Kennedy; and brothers, Wesley, Buford, Reggie, Bayne and Roy Wyatt.

Mae enjoyed gardening, flowers, cooking and caring for her family.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Bill Wagoner of Mount Airy; a son and daughter-in-law, Bobby Ray and Margaret Owens of Archdale; a grandson and spouse, Kevin and Arleen Wagoner of Pilot Mountain; three great-grandchildren, Dylan, Ryan and Kaylee Wagoner; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 19, 2009, at the Whitehead-Joines Cemetery near Sparta. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Grandview Memorial Funeral Home in Sparta.
