This isn't my direct line but according to my notes, Jacob Hoppers was b. abt. 1803 in Ashe (later Alleghany) Co. and d. Mar. 9, 1896, in Alleghany Co. I'm not sure where that date of death comes from because his gravestone is not listed in the Alleghany County Cemetery book. But that's the date I have in my FTM database. Jacob Hoppers was a son of Daniel Hoppers and Anna Maria "Mary" Fender (daughter of Christian Fender). I believe the Hoppers were of German extraction and their surname is also spelled Hoppus, Hoppas or Hopperas in the early records. Here is a deed which confirms that Jacob was the son of Daniel Hoppers:

Nov. 12, 1824. Deed from James WHITEHEAD & Mary his wife, David EVANS & Betsy his wife, Moses JOINES & Susannah his wife, John HOPPERAS, Jacob HOPPERAS, Thomas JOINES & Lydia his wife, the heirs at law & legatees of Daniel HOPPERAS, dec'd, to Henry WAGGONER & Sarah his wife, 280 acres in Ashe County lying on the waters of the Little River adj. Daniel HOPPERAS old line, Turkey Knob ridge, and Mary HOPPERS line. Signed: James WHITEHEAD, Mary (X) WHITEHEAD, David EVANS, Elizabeth (X) EVANS, John HOPPERAS, Jacob (X) HOPPERAS, Moses JOINES, Susan (X) JOINES, Thos. JOINES, Lydia (X) JOINES. That's all the information I have because again, it's not my direct line, but I believe there are people who have done a lot of research on the Hoppers family.
