Trying to find some background on my ancestor Wilson Mathewson (possibly John Wilson), born about 1820/21. His father has been listed as Alexander Mathewson, from somewhere in west central NC. I have seen land grant records for an Alex. Mathewson/Mathison, which property seems to be located in present day Alexander County.

Does anyone have any information on this family? Where did A.M. come from? One report said he was one of Oglethorpe's people from Savannah. Found no evidence yet. Is "my" Mathewson line connected to the present day Mathesons of the county?

Wilson Mathewson, presumably with his parents, moved to Daviess County, Indiana, where he died after 1860. I have a fair grasp of the family after that.
