I'm researching Elizabeth Boals/Bowles, who married John Clanton in Wilkes County, N.C., in 1861. Her maiden name is spelled Boals on marriage certificate and Bowles on her daughter's death certificate.
I'm trying to determine who her parents were. In the 1860 census, I found an Elizabeth Boales or Bowles (it's hard to read and ancestry.com transcribes it as Boales) in the household of an William Boales/Bowles in the Upper Division of Wilkes County. Also in the household is a Harriett Boales, Addeline Mathis and a young child Charlotte Mathis. I'm wondering if this my Elizabeth.
In 1870, I think the William and Harriett above are in Sugar Loaf area of Alexander County with the surname Bawls.
I would be grateful for any info about this family so I can determine if it's my ancestor's family or just one with a similar name.
Thanks, KHatton
