Your Joseph Stout was my great-great grandfather. His son was Franklin Augustus Stout. Frankin's daughter, Nelle, was my grandmother. You can get all my family tree here on ancestry. "Webb Family of Grand Junction, TN". It's not complete here so far as the Stout line is concerned, so I'll update it the next day or so.

Family tradition is that Franklin Stout was Native American and was born on a reservation in Alamance county. Do you have any info on this?

Robert M. Webb

Looking for any information on the Stout family of Alamance County during the mid 1860's. What I have is Joseph H. Stout, brothers Aaron and Nathan. All three served in Company F, 53rd North Carolina Infantry during the Civil War. Joseph's son Franklin Augustus Stout, born around 1866, was my great-grandfather.

Family tradition is that Franklin was Native American and was born on a reservation in North Carolina, so any information about this would be great. I have contacted the Occanicchi Band of the Saponi, but they won't give out any info.

Thanks

Amy,

I apologize for my late response to your email. My life got pretty busy and I stopped digging into the family history until now. Thank you for sharing the information on Thomas Marshall.

Does the Portrait & Biographical Record, Fountain, Montgomery & Parke Counties book have any references to the following?:

Jonathan S.
Linda,

I apologize for the delayed response to your email. My life got busy and I stopped digging into the family history for a while. But to answer your question, if I have my facts straight Jonathan S. Marshall was my great, great, great grandfather. I base that on the following:

Jonathan & Nancy (Clemens) Marshall had a son, Alfred James Marshall on 13 August 1868.

Alfred married Aletha McCullom (year unknown) and they had a son, Elvin B. Marshall on 17 Jan 1896.

Elvin "Bossie" Marshall married Nada Palmer (year unknown) and they had a son, Richard Elvin Marshall on 11/12/1919. Richard who went by "Dick" was my grandfather.

I am working (slowly) on getting supporting documentation to back all of this up. I hope this explains the connection.

Sincerely,

Bradford Marshall Fields
Sorry for omitting that important information. I found all of them in the 1850 census and William, Sarah, Hanah, Calvin, Jane and Benjamin in the 1860 census. Robert moved to MO sometime about that time, James had already moved to MO in about 1840 and Joseph may have died by 1860. I found Calvin's death record and he died of typhoid fever in 1862 in Richmond VA at Camp Winder hospital.

>>>>I am looking for more information on the Gibbs from Hyde county as well and further back to the Gibbs family in Europe and also Brinson/Cason names in England (before the 1700s). Starting with my grandfather :

*Melvin Grey Gibbs (1935-2010)NC - (Married Mary Chambers)

->Floyd Earl Gibbs (1906-1981)NC - (Married Reggie Louise Bowden)

-Warren Walter Gibbs (1871-1940)Lake Landing NC -

-Milton Selby Gibbs (1834-1904)NC - (Married Mary Dorcas Spencer?)

-Carney Gibbs (1795-1872)Hyde NC -(Married Polly Affa Spencer?)

>>>*After this is where I become unsure. Listed as the father of Carney Gibbs I have :

***Cason Gibbs Jr. (1773-Unknown)Hyde NC - (Married to Unknown)

***Cason Gibbs Sr. (1749-1826?)Hyde NC - (Married to Dinah Bartee?*Had multiple wives possibly 3? Dinah was the first wife I believe so I have seen it listed that Cason Jr was her son)

***Joseph Gibbs Sr (1720?-1794)Hyde NC - (Married to Mary Brinson *link to Brinson and Cason names in England? Need more information on Mary Brinson (daug of Cason Grey Brinson and Frances Marsh?) Any record that she married Joseph or anymore info would be great. This seems to be my link to the Brinson/Cason family in England which I have possibly followed back to John Cason *Hertfordshire 1560 and Richard Cason *Hertforshire 1490**See Bottom of post**)

***Henry Gibbs (1693-1763?)Hyde NC? - (Married to Ann/Jane Spencer?Speculation only have not found much information)

***Henry John Gibbs (1675-?)
I am happy to hear from you and to hear about your family. The reunions with Alex Haley and the Alamance County Murrays ended with Mr. Haley's death. We had reunions of Murray Researchers at Crossroads Presbyterian Church in Alamance County and I was blessed to be able to attend these meetings. It was really neat to meet people you had only known on email. These meeting were planned and carried out by 3 people in NC. One of these people died last year and the others have gotten older, like me. As far as I know, no other reunions are planned. If I should hear of one I will let you know. I am leaving on a trip tomorrow. When I return, I will be happy to discuss our families with you. Thank you for writing.

Rosalyn Sumner: My name is Clennon Wayne Murray. My father's name is Clennon Murray now deceased. He had eight children. We all live in California. From oldest to youngest; myself Clennon "Wayne" Murray (name after my father and the actor John Wayne), Thomas (Tommy) Otis Murray (named after my father's father and my mother's father), David Leroy Murray now deceased, Brenda Joyce Murray, Deborah (Debbie) Lynn Murray-Tavasti, Renae Carla Ann Smith-Murray, Linda Jean Murray and Mary Louise Murray. My mom's name is Argusta (Ann or Gussie Mae) Mae Parker-Murray. They all live either in San Diego or Los Angeles except for Tommy and myself. We both live in Chico. Some of us have children. As I understand it, Otis Murray is my Grandfather (my father's father), George Murray is my Great Grandfather, Louis Lea-Murray is my Great Great Grandfather and Chicken George Lea is my Great Great Great Grandfather. I am very interested in having a Murray Reunion. I also have a lot information on the California Murray's, and have established a website. I just learned that William (Bill) Haley passed last week (Alex Haley's son). He and I got to know one another over the phone this past year, and had many discussions about having another long awaited and overdue reunion. Please contact me at my email. It is cwmramtrm@aol.com. I know other Murray relatives that are also interested in having a reunion from California, Texas, Florida and Tennessee. I look forward to hearing from you soon. Sincerely, Wayne

NC death certificates 1900-1908

I am looking for my great grandfathers death or burial record. I have read that ther were no death certificates issued in NC between 1900 and 1908. Does anyone know where else i could look? He was alive when the 1900 census was taken and living in Elon, Alamance co. When the 1910 census was taken his wife was listed as a widow and she had moved back to Greensboro. The rest of his family is buried at Green Hill Cemetary but not him. I doubt in those days if he died in Alamance co he would have been transported back to Greensboro. His name was James M. Oakley. His wife was Eliza Brincefield Oakley. I've hit a dead end and really want to find out what happened to him. Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Jacob Caleb Whitesell was my great grandfather on my fathers side. He was in the NC Junior reserves during the Civil War and participated in the battle at Ft. Fisher near Wilmington,NC. I have been told he walked home with a 50 cent pc. in his pocket, all that he had. He built a home on the property I live on now. He entered wheat in a contest during a Worlds Fair in the early 1900s. He was asked the name of the farm, and he named it Highland Farm at that time. His son Lacy Jacob is my grandfather and Ray Andrew Whitesell is my father. We have a book that tells a lot of what you are looking for, if I find it, I will try to get more info. to you. Sorry, dont know as much about Elizabeth.

Virginia married David Jacobs in 1870 but I cannot find any other information on David nor on when and where Virginia died. Any help on this would be a great help as I am stuck here on this tree, but on my mother's side I have been able to trace back to the early 1600's. Thanks

Tom

Hi my name is Mitzi Short and i am the great grand daughter of Brice Torian from Person County. I think that we are related. I know that i am related to Anderson Torian and Zack Torian but i don't know how to put it all together. I would love to get some information to you. My reason is that i am trying to connect the dots for so many of my new found family members. I see that this is a huge huge family. There is a plantation here in the Bushy Fork area where my ancestors were house. The plantation was owned by a Nathaniel Torian. I believe that your greats and my greats were all on this plantation together and are closely related. We are having our first ever Torian/Torain reunion here in person county and would love it if you and your fam could attend. My email is iceedivine@gmail.com. If you can send some information to me through the email.

Thanks in advance, Mitzi Short

Yes, I have documentation for almost everything! George Sinclair Capers is not my direct ancestor. His nephew, Sinclair Capers DesChamps is... His father, Louis Miles DesChamps, was the older brother of George Sinclair Capers DesChamps. I am working on my files at the moment and have so many papers out that I’m not going to dig through them today.
You can find some things on line...the Will of Francis DesChamps (d.1821) mentions both George Sinclair Capers and Louis Miles. Both are the sons of Francis DesChamps and Susanna Joy, dau. of Richard Joy, there is also another brother,Francis DesChamps who died early.

I believe that the Parish Register of St. James, Santee: 1758-1788 is also on line

Don’t confuse George Sinclair Capers DesChamps with George Sinclair Capers. The families were friends and frequently associated. I have known people to see only the similarities and jump onto the Capers family.

I'll be happy to help you however I can, which includes copying my documents and the family Bible but not today.
Sorry...I just found your message and hope you have answered your questions. I don't know what you are looking for concerning George Sinclair Capers DesChamps. He was the younger brother of Louis Miles DesChamps. I can supply documentation etc. for anything I said concerning GSC DesChamps

Clyde Ray was my uncle. His middle name was Haskell and he was born in 1912. He is buried in Pine Hill Cemetery in Burlington, NC but am not sure where his widow was buried. She isn't buried with him because he is buried in the Veteran's section and there's no provision made for spouses.
