Where was West Troy NY??

Adrienne  (View posts) Posted: 12 Sep 1999 3:31PM GMT
My ggg-grandmother allegedly lived and died in West Troy NY. I cannot find a town by that name today. Was it just referring to an area west of Troy in Rensselaer County, or was there a West Troy elsewhere in the state?

Adrienne-
I also have ancestors from West Troy, NY and my dad still lives in Watervliet as it is known today. My gg Grandfather was a Justice of the Peace in West Troy. The NY State Library in Albany has a wonderful genealogy collection and I also have a history of West Troy which was done by the town historian. What names are you searching for? If you'd like any additional info please e-mail.

Thank you so much for your kind offer.
My ggg-grandparents lived in West Troy in the mid-1800's. My ggg-grandfather, Roelof SEBRING, son of John Roelof SEBRING, born May 30, 1813, at Ovid NY, d. Dec. 18, 1884; married 1834, Sarah Jane Austin, b. Mar 1816, d. Sept 1890; lived and died in West Troy NY.
Their children were:
Fernando Cartes SEBRING b. Mar 1836
Maria Harriet SEBRING b. July 1840
John Wesley SEBRING b. Jan 1845
Russell Nelson (my gg-grandfather) b. Feb 1847
Emma Frances SEBRING b. 1850
Mary Esther SEBRING b. 1852
Altona (Altena?) Sebring b. Aug 1854
Dillon b. Aug. 1856
Minor Jefferson b. June 1858
I have a lot of info on Russell, and I have found Dillon and Minor on later census records, but the rest of the siblings seem a mystery. Any info at all would help, particularly marriage info on the girls so I can find them in later censuses. I think one of the girls married a man named Joseph Riddle.
Please don't go to too much trouble. But if you see anything that might even be a hint, please let me know. Post a message to this board or e-mail me at asowards@dps.state.ut.us
Thank you again for your kind offer.

Hello:
First, I want to say thank you for your kind and generous offer.
I've been searching without much luck for information on my ggggrandfather, Peter Murphy who settled in W.Troy during the late 1800s. The information that I have is that he married a woman named Mary and had a son named Edwin F. Murphy who was born in 1869. They lived in W. Troy(Watervliet) their entire lives. If you have any information on these people it would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

D.Cservak

I happened to run across your message. I am looking for an Elizabeth Simons, born July 2, 1854 in Cohoes, NY. SHe was the dtr. of John Wesley Simons and Sarah Rising . I have tried getting information from Watervliet, but they have none this old. I'm wondering if it was W. Troy at the time, but not sure where I should look. Any advice you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

why are you trying to get info from Watervliet? You say they were from Cohoes? Did you try Cohoes? And yes, West Troy was Watervliet for quite some time...Try the Troy Public Library...they have extensive info on West Troy.

Thanks for the info. I thought I had read somewhere that W. Try, Watervliet and Cohoes were all so close that boundaries changed at times. Yes, I tried Watervliet without success. Thanks again.
