Sorry, no known OH connection, not yet anyway. My husband's French Canadian lines, VIAU, BOYER/ BOYEA, PETEL/ PETELLE went thru north-eastern NY: Plattsburgh and Malone, for a generation or 2, before moving to Marinette WI and its twin city, Menominee MI.
Their immigration pattern was a common one after the 1830's insurrections in Quebec: left home south of Montreal, but not too far, found work in northern NY, took babies back home to Laprairie for baptisms; after the grandparents died, able to move farther west, as long as they could find a community with enough other French-Canadians...
BOYER families could be either French-Canadian, some are even Acadian, or German. Do you know for sure which yours are? If German, the PA-based Association of American Boyers might be of some help. Many libraries have 1 or more of their published genealogies.
I can't say our BOYERs had "unknown NY locations." Those are reserved for My ancestors, who only lived in NY for a short time: George/George Herbert?/Joseph? REINHARDT, b. ca. 1813 Germany, who met & married in NY, Elizabeth SCHUESSLER, b. ca. 1818 Germany. They should be somewhere in NY 1850 census, with 1 son, Joseph and probably the 2nd son, Charles/ J.Charles, but we have not found them despite a thorough census search.
Our only clue is that they may have lived in a place called Millwright, NY, but nobody can find it!
