I have always known that my grandfather, who passed away in 1989 was adopted. He was born in June of 1916 and I believe was adopted around the age of 3 around 1919/1920. I recently found out that his name before the adoption may have been Monroe Schlappich. I had always thought he was born and raised in Pennsylvania but again found out that the adoption may have taken place somewhere in New York. He was adopted by Arthur and Martha James from Frackville, Pennsylvania. Are the adoption records opened for New York from the early 1900s? Does anyone know a family by the name Schlappich? I'm not sure how to proceed since I don't know what part of New York the adoption took place. Any help or hints would be great! Thanks for reading this.
