William was an uncle of mine. My living family hasn't heard from him in years. he was born around 1937 as he was listed as 3YO on the 1940 census. He lived with my grandmother Rae (aka Ray) Schwartz for years in Kearny NJ.
Ancestry isn't making it easy to search for him as they don't have a lot of vital records, such as the birth records from NY City from the 1930's and up, so I can't try to figure out his middle name from a possible birth cert.
I did a search on the SS Death Index with a birth year of 1937 +/- 1 year.
This is the #1 result:
Name: William Schwartz
Last Residence:
11374 Flushing, Queens, New York, Africa, USA
BORN: 24 May 1936
Died: 10 Aug 2007
State (Year) SSN issued: New York (1951-1952)
There is a possibility that he returned to the Queens, NY area at some point as he had some roots there.
I would like to look at other records for his name but the results include birth years from 1931 to 1943 (giving me 2000+ to look through for additional candidates)! Huh? It doesn't seem like search is operating correctly since I should only see birth years from 1936 to 1938 (which would narrow down possible results).
Am I doing something incorrect or is this a known Ancestry bug?
