My great great grandfather was Pat McAleer he was born in New York City in 1833 or 1837 relocated to New Jersey by himself and married Mary Donahoe there. Pat and Mary had several children in New Jersey and Pat enlisted for the Civil War there. After the war the family relocated to the Momence/Hoopeston Illinois area where Pat worked for the RailRoad and lived till his death in 1911 Pat's only son was named John (my mothers grandfather) he also lived in illinois and worked for the railroad and died in illinois. We knew nothing about Pat's parents or any other family until recently when i received copies of the Haslett Family bible (Pat's second daughter was Mary Ellen McAleer Haslett) That bible lists 2 brothers for Pat John 1842 New York City- Sept 30, 1889 place unknown and Alexander no birth date but died September 21, 1907 place unknown The parents were born in Ireland. I have located brothers John and Alexander living in the home with a new brother James and James' family in New york in 1860 & 1870 and in the 1900 census John is not listed with the group although Alexeander is living in the same Apartment building as James and Katherine this is just a possibility and I have no proof that this John and Alex are in fact related to Pat any help I can get would be greatly appreciated
