Mary MURPHY (my great great aunt) married James Harvey BACKUS on Oct. 3, 1856 probably in Attica (where they both lived and died.) She was said to be "of Portage" at the time of their marriage. The marriage may have been in a Catholic church - or not. They were not members of a Catholic church in later life, although her MURPHY family was always Catholic.

Do any church records (or village/town records) exist for that time period? If anyone has access, or knows who I should contact, this information would be much appreciated.

Mary MURPHY BACKUS died in Attica on August 3, 1914 (88 years ago today!) Where would I write for her death certificate?

I have inherited some lovely things which once were hers, and so I am most interested in finding out everything I can about her and her family. I have been to Attica and obtained copies of some family records. Don't know when I can come again.
