The Belding/Belden/Baildon Surname Project has been established to aid in genealogical research and to determine whether persons with these surnames share a common relationship. Male descendants bearing one of the names or a variant thereof are sought for participation in the project. To join the project or for more information, see

My earliest proven
Belding ancestor is Benjamin
Belding, born 1801, who moved from Sawpits (
Rye),
Westchester County around 1828 and settled in
Greenwich,
Huron County,
Ohio. I believe he is the son of the Benjamin
Belden who appears in the 1800 Census of
Rye, and whose will was admitted to probate there on 10 March 1802.
