Surnames: Bornand Bourquin Bibes Woolworth Chaloux Morse Martin Wirtrich Joseph
Looking for relatives who lived in the NYC area.
They all worked in the clock/music box trade.

Joseph Camille Bornand [1873-1940]

a machinist, was born in Sainte-Croix, Vaud, Switzerland
imigration: 30 SEP 1895

marriage: 23 JAN 1900 Manhattan, NY
to:
Milca Bibes, born ca 1868 Tonneins, Lot-et-Garonne, France.
she was the oldest of 4 daughters of Charles Bibes [a ropemaker] & Julie Ladebat, who arrived 1 August 1877 in NY & settled in Saint Louis, MO. ( her 3 sisters were: Rachel [1871], Marie [1873], Martha [1876] )

Joseph & Milca lived in North Pelham, near Vernon Park [& named their son: Adrien Vernon.]

they had 3 children:

_ 1 Louise Elise Bornand born 1900 NJ, married Eugene Woolworth

_ 2 Adrien Vernon Bornand born 2 Aug 1902 Manhattan, NY died 1949 [or 1951]

_ 3 Elise Marianne Bornand born 1904 NY
---------------------
Adrien Vernon Bornand:

marriage: 12 OCT 1929 Manhattan, NY
to Ruth Chaloux Morse born 13 OCT 1901 NY - died 8 Aug 2000 Fort Lauderdale, FL

Adrien & Ruth had [at least] 2 children:

____ 1 Hilaire Elizabeth Bornand born 1934
____ 2 Elise Helen Bornand born 1939

late 1990's, Ruth Bornand was still listed in the phone book in North Pelham.
For many years, she was a well known dealer in music boxes, having taken over the business of her late husband Adrien [Bornand Music Box Company, 139 Fourth Avenue, Pelham NY]

per a newspaper article [13 APR 1952]:

"..... Hilaire, 17, a student at Pelham Memorial HS ......
"... Adrian, was descended from a Swiss family who has been making boxes since 1825."

----------------------------------------------------------
Please see my post in New York County about Arthur Alexandre Bornand [1865-1954]
"Bornand families in NYC area - from Sainte Croix, Switzerland."

http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.new...

Joseph Camille & "Alexander" Bornand were first cousins:

_ Joseph was the 3rd child of Constant Bornand [1837-] & Julie Martin

_ Arthur Alexandre was the 1st child of Henri Louis Bornand [1830-1867] & Julie Wirtrich née Joseph

Constant & Henri Louis were brothers.

Their sister was Julie Nanette Bornand [1828-1872], who married Ami Paul Bourquin [1820-1875]: they were my great-great-grand parents.

that's all I know. I can use some help.

Very frustating, as the name Bornand is not searchable on the forum.
Many, many, false results of the type:

BORN
AND lived in ....

thanks in advance.

Hello. Found a lengthy New York Times item dated Aug 19, 1979 , "Music Boxes Preserve Family Tradition". Ruth is quoted and it shows that her father-in-law Joseph first worked in Rahway, New Jersey when he came to America and then moved to Pelham in 1902.

If you don't already have it, I can e-mail a copy of the article to you.

... also I see that you are not completely certain when Adrien died so you must not have found his June 13, 1949 obituary in the New York Times. Mentions his sisters Eugene M. "WOODWORTH" and Miss Elise Bornand and daughters that you already have. I can send this to you as well.

Gave you the wrong date of the obit, it was OCT 27, 1949 page 28 in the New York Times. Also, mentions that Adrian graduated from the University of Neuchatel in Switzerland.

<< .... you are not completely certain when Adrien died... >>
I thought it was indeed 1949 until I saw a newspaper article [1952] saying that "he died last year".

another article said that her father-in-law was Louis [FALSE] !!!

I cannot find them in the 1900 Census - now I can concentrate on Rahway. THANKS A LOT for that info.

Yes, I'd love to have any article you can send me.

A cousin of my grand father [she is now in her late 80's] gave me a letter from Ruth [1955] and this 1952 article.
She said she used to have a phone number for "her cousins in NY" but had lost the number & names.
Any little detail may help me help her.

Thanks a lot, you can email to: Mike,
