Just wanted to follow up. The 1850 census in Warwick is my Daniel Wood! It's just recently been confirmed in the best possible way - photographs. I have a photograph of Daniel Wood and recently another ancestry.com scanned in photos from a family album and had 2 younger but unmistakable photos of Daniel Wood.
His father is Walter Wood 1802-1878 and Mary Walling. They had Emily Wood 1827–1893, Sarah Ann Wood 1831–1906, Jamina Wood, and Col. Goddard Wood in addition to Daniel. After his first wife died it looks like Walter married Pamelia who had her own children (as suspected from the census record. So far I've identified Maria E Moore 1830-1882 married James Weygant, Ann Eleria Moore married McCullough, and Ellen or Ella P Moore. All three Moore girls (who also at times had last name noted as Wood) are on the 1860 Newburgh, Orange, NY census living Maria's family.

Thanks for pointing me to that record!
