The following is the obituary of my great-grandfather, Philander Mitchell Griswold, who married my great-grandmother, Sophia Lucretia Soper about 1874. Philander was the son of Nelson Griswold (February 16, 1811-April 01, 1859) and Mary Ann Mitchell (February 04, 1816-April 16, 1894). They lived and raised their families in Wayne County, New York.

Philander M. Griswold died at his home on Sodus street last (Wednesday) evening of a form of apoplexy due to excessive heat. He was in his 47th year. He is survived by two brothers, John and Alonzo of this town and one sister [Celinda Griswold Crane] who lives in Illinois, also a widow [Sophia (Soper) Griswold] and three children, Agnes, Jennie E., and Nelson B.
Philander & Sophia Griswolds children married as follows: Agnes Sophia (November 18, 1877-January 03, 1953) m. Remington Hill (1875-April 1939) in 1898; Jennie Elizabeth (January 15, 1882-January 1948) m. Adam John McMillan (August 26, 1880-April 19, 1913) in 1904; Nelson B. Griswold (September 25, 1885-July 04, 1953) m. Lena Schweigen (March 12, 1885-April 18, 1949) on June 13, 1906.
Nelson B. & Lena (Schweigen) Griswold were my grandparents.
