I am researching my husband's great- grandfather, John Ferguson who served with the 21st New York Cavalry during the Civil War. He was mustered out at Leavenworth, Kansas, and remained there - marrying and raising a family. We know little of his family in Tompkins County. We understand he was born in Ulysses. He may be the John Furgason shown on the 1860 census with parents James and Elizabeth, and his sister Angeline and her family (Austin), There are Ferguson/Furgasons in Grove Cemetery, but I do not know the connection. I would appreciate any guidance in my research, and hearing from any family which remained in the area.
