As far as I've been able to tell Francis
Kennedy was the son of Micah Canada/Canaday/Kennedy and Molly/Mary
Gould. At the time of his birth
Tompkins county had not yet been formed. The family was living in what is now the town of Groton. When Francis was born it was part of the town of
Locke,
Cayuga county. The following is the only census record I've been able to find for Micah.
1800
Hawley, Hampshire Co., MA, US Census, pg. 803
Canada, Micah 2 males <10; 1 male 26 - <45;
2 females <10; 1 female 26 - <45; 1 female over 45
There was a John
Kennedy living in
Locke in 1810, but I don't know if he was related. His census record shows no children born between 1800 and 1810, so I'm sure that he isn't the father of Francis and
Mercy and the 'Stories of Kanisteo', p. 102 it states that Micah and Francis
Kennedy were Othniel Call's brother-in-laws, so the siblings relationships are confirmed as is his mother's residence in in the town of
Locke in 1806.
The next record has Mary as the head of the household, so Micah died prior to 1820.
1820 Groton,
Tompkins Co., NY, US Census, pg. 34
Kenneday, Mary 1 male 16 - 18; 1 male 16 - <26
1 female 10 - <16; 1 female over 45
Mary lived with her daughter Hepsibah until her death. She is buried in the
Belleville cemetery in the town of New
Hudson.
Without a census record for 1810, I have no idea just how many children they may have had, but the 1800 record suggests that they had at least one more son that was born before 1800. I haven't been able to find out his name.
This is a list of children for Micah and Molly. It is not complete:
Hepsibah, b. 1794, married George
Gould and lived in New
Hudson,
Allegany county, NY
Micah, b. 1796, married a woman named Ador and lived in Hartsville,
Steuben county, NY.
Mercy, b. 1806, married 1st, Othniel Call; married 2nd,
Abner Atwood; lived in Groton,
Tompkins county, NY
Mary, b. 1790-1800, married David
Stearns Whiting, was living in Hornellsville,
Steuben county, NY in 1840.
Mary
Kenedy belonged to the
Baptist church in Locke/Groton in 1806 according to the 'History of Tioga, Chemung,
Tompkins, and
Schuyler Counties,
New York', pg. 504
